SoundSwitch DJ Lighting Software | Q&A & Tutorial (Part 1)

In this video, I answer some questions about SoundSwitch and go a bit in-depth with the software's features. I'm not a lighting expert, and that's why I use SoundSwitch to help me with my lighting game. Hope this video is helpful for all the people who are considering getting SoundSwitch or for those people who are already using it. I believe that we need to up our performance when we DJ and stand out. Learning something new isn't easy, but once you realize the benefit from it, it'll be worth it. This is my take on SoundSwitch. Enjoy!

Hey Mojoe, another great video. Thanks for your response to my earlier question. I was definitely questioning the use of an external controller with SoundSwitch, until today! I purchased mine about 3 weeks ago so now I will attempt to use my Traktor Control F1 as a controller for Static Looks. Thanks again for your videos. Keep kicking ass!!

To the question about how many lights you can hook up... it depends haha. SoundSwitch offers one DMX universe. A DMX Universe contains 512 channels, that is your limit. If you have 8 of the same pars you could have them all in the same channel, but they will be clones. If you wanted to do chases they could each have their own channel, or you could do 4 channels with 2 fixtures to each channel address. Remember that most fixtures will take multiple channels. A basic RGB fixture may be 4-5 channels whereas and advanced moving head may have 14 and that all eats up your total 512.

hey whats up, quick question.. i see your using a MPC to control the lights, how are you able to Connect Serato USB...Soundswitch USB & The MPC USB ... are you using any extra attachments? or is anything firewire? thanks

Good question! I use a MacBook Pro. There aren’t enough USB ports so I use an extra USB hub. That’ll work

Man I would love to get this! Especially now since the micro interface is available now! Does having the sound switch software and serato open on your laptop make it buggy?

Nope! So far no bugs. And if there were, SS does a great job updating the software to make it better.

Is there a way to set up a few different loops that are sound activated for when I want to spin a song that I don’t have a light track for?

Yup! You do that beforehand in the edit mode. Then when in performance mode, you can jump to a bank or scene with the autoloops and the track will use that instead. hope that helps!

Hey, which midi controller are you using? First go to the edit mode in SoundSwitch and see if the lights respond to it first before going into performance mode. Check out the SoundSwitch User Group in Facebook too

About how many lights... i think you have up to 512 dmx adresses/channels. A light can have different amount of channels. So the answer is It depends. When you are out of channels, the 512 you can use a unit to add 512 more channels. I´m new to this DMX world too so sorry if wrote something wrong. Bless!

I like sound switch but still pricey waiting for the sale :D using qlc+ for now until the sale come up and i will buy this bad-ass gear. thanks moe for the enlightenment. one question, so how you input the music to activate the lights? just pressing manually according to the beat of the music?

Cool, yes you can save up for it. When you run the SoundSwitch software, make sure SeratoDJ is open. When you play a song, SoundSwitch is linked up to SeratoDJ and will play the autoloops light show that’s already in sync to the beat of the music

@@djmojoeofficial wow this is cool, so it just activated by the loop not by the sound. so you just need to create a loop or any scene and it will trigger once you play a song from serato? can you do a video tutorials for that like create a loop/scene and then when you play a song then the scene/loop will trigger?

Can you explain how you hook your Akai APC and SoundSwitch Dongle to your computer?

Since they both require USBs and my Macbook has limited USB space, I use a USB adapter to connect them. So Akai & Soundswitch USBs connect to the adapter, then that adapter connects to the computer

Do I need to assign DMX channel if I am using Donner wireless dongle?

If you’re using a DMX software with the dongles, yes. If you’re just doing master and slave, I don’t think you need to.

And I have some dmx controllers, Marq Scenic software, but the most recently is sound switch, I saw your video and I really like the way you control your fixtures, I trying to used sound switch for small venues, and the Marq Scenic software is really good to, super complete to used APC Mini.

how can I control the true color white? The color white as RGB simulation is not great

It depends on your lighting fixture. On SoundSwitch, you can choose white and the final outcome of that white depends on your fixture if it outputs true white or not

Yup! You can, just send an image of the DMX numbers from the fixture’s manual over to SoundSwitch and then They’ll add it for you

Yup! It should work with Windows based on their site. And yes, if it’s not there, you can send the DMX list on the manual to SoundSwitch and they’ll add it in. That’s what they did with me too

Yup! Should be an option. They have an extensive list of lighting fixtures there. And even if the fixture isn’t there, you can message them to add it for you. You would just need to send them the manual with the listed DMX functions and they’ll take care of it
