Fantastic movie and soundtrack. This movie is like a fine wine, aged so perfectly. Redford is superb in it of course, but let's not forget the stunning Dave Grusin soundtrack, absolutely wonderful. Faye Dunaway was truly beautiful in this too, really stunning woman.

Dave Grusin, a great great composer of soundtracks, jazz music, and many others. Beautiful atmosphere he creates for a fantastic film, cult movie of the 70's. Robert Redford and Sidney Pollack, worked together in many great films. This is a history of great Cinema!

@Paul McIlroy political & social bite, grittiness & stylishness, relevance to human beings, artistic yet approachable and commercial - New Hollywood: the best period for cinema because Hollywood had both more money and more craftsmen technicians who could successfully construct action, contemporary and historic drama set piece scenes and films. In Europe director rarely had the inclination, skill or money to do action scenes, not necessarily genre action film but a plausible violent event in his life simulating drama. In Hollywood when young 1960's 1970's artists came they had a crew of experienced guys who could objectify their visions, i.e. make them visible, physical, tangible. Craftsmen had the unique opportunity to shine and show that they are artists too. Off course they already were but in 1970's they had the unique chance to show it to everyone. Hence magnificent soundtracks, exciting hair raising montage sequences, seductive laden with emotions and meaning photography, perfect manipulation with sound to build an atmosphere (1974 "The Conversation"), the best acting performances that acting old-timers and newbies gave in their lives, aforementioned set design (George Roy Hill's 1973 "The Sting" and 1969 "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" among many) intriguingly provocative and subversive scripts, crazy genius directors (like Peckinpah) etc.

Who is they ? And well, the CIA can do a lot, but also has its limits. They didn't get Castro, did they ? And they didn't predict several key moments in the Vietnam war. I'm not even sure if they generally do good work, are on the right side of things... I mean.... getting involved with the maffia, with drug smugglers....
