Soundwave has been my favorite since childhood. I just liked that he had so many tools for any situation, while being a bot of few/no words. As I grew up, I realized how loyal and important he is. I had some of the most epic battles between Sondwave and his tapes against Blaster and his tapes. When I saw that as a kid in the the original Transformers movie I was in awe. The tapes had some of the best names too. Ravage, Laserbeak, Steel jaw, Rumble, Rampant, frenzy, Eject, Ramhorn. They even had combiners like Decibel. 🔥🔥🔥 I’m 47 and I still feel like a kid when it comes to Transformers. 😀

If I remember right, in IDW continuity, after Megatron returned to his origin mindset and freaked out because of his "heroics", Soundwave left Megatron and became new leader of Decepticons. However, it was said, that if Megatron would come back, he would gave leadership to him. They both died though... I think.

I once thought of an idea for soundwave being a quadruple changer. Here’s my ideas for there modes. The robot mode would resemble a mixture of his g1 and prime robot form mainly cause The prime design is one of my personal favorite designs. A news report van mainly cause it fits the sound and radio wave theme and would allow them to tune into almost any station in plain sight. A stealth bomber cause it would allow for efficient travel and silent flight allowing them to sneak through enemy territory. A mechanical bat mode cause it also fits the sound theme and could allow for more maneuverability when his steal bomber mode isn’t needed and for seeking out targets in hiding plus it’s a reference to an obscure beast wars mutant toy with the same name. Anyone ever seen it? An IPhone cause in today’s time it would attract far less attention then an cassette player from the 80’s

I don't feel like that is a big deal unless they bring attention to it. For example, Portal 2 has pretty different aesthetics to Portal 1, up to the Cores, the Elevators, even GLaDOS herself. But they don’t acknowledge it in-universe as a change, so it is easy to just dismiss it as the graphical upgrade/update it is.
