In my head canon Ray was a member of the Special Operations Engineer Regiment. It makes sense. The skill with IED’s and other explosives. The preference for shotguns and the skill with which he wields them. The preferred use of a shovel as a melee weapon. The speed with which he digs foxholes and how well they function. Just my theory though.

I think the idea is that Ray respects that it's nothing personal and it's just business. Since Davros was dead Ray had no real need to kill Dave.

This is indeed amazing, but the whole thing with this show is there are other scenes on par with it. Ray ambushing the people following him in van and car. Fist fight with the hells angel. Either of the two farm shoot outs. His brother. The Taxi end scene. I never really rank things precisely but this show is top ten tv of all time, no question.

I have not watched this series but the acting in this scene alone is amazing. That guy who double crossed Ray knew full well that he should have met his demise like the others and the actor really portrays that fear, nervousness, confusion, and ultimately his relief and acknowledgment that he owes Ray his life. Ray knows all of this of course but just plays it cool. He knows that the other man knows that he was just gifted his life even after his betrayal. Amazing scene.

I came across the series by chance. It's pretty unknown in Europe, as are the actors. What can I say, I'm thrilled and the ending was really well done. Australian series or films rarely make it to us. It's a shame because I'm currently watching Mystery Road Origin, also a good series from Australia.
