You can also use a sliding door as an elevator if you set it to slide upwards.

in HL2 select flags tab and use and toggle to make it open and close folks, and check its rotating 90* on class info.

i was searching for a way to make my door "fall" like a giant entrence of a castle and even trough you didnt even mentions something like that here you helped me with it. thank you! even tho i still have problems with the buttons for it.. i made the door toggle and the buttons too but somehow i can use each button (2) just once and then the door wont work anymore.

I’m having issues with changing the door orientation, I’m using the the half-life 2 “left” door and I need to turn it to fit a building but when I I change its orientation and test the map, it glitches out and it’s hit box does not follow the door texture. (I’m using gmod to test my maps.)

@@AK3601 Instead of pressing 'fit' with these textures (the ones with a black area above and to the right of the door texture), create a standard size door brush, 56x112, and justify the texture to the bottom and left or right by pressing the 'B' and 'L' or 'R' buttons depending on the orientation of the door. i.imgur.com/hGk5Bvr.png i.imgur.com/wXmYP2O.jpeg

@@tubzy5626 But what if i want the door to be big without the annoyance of resizing the resize every time i reshape the brush's size? that's what i meant. Also what if you wanted the door to be a bunch of background overlays on a huge brush but can't because you can't clip out the black part when it is a overlay decal without making it a stretched custom texture of the same doors. Rather than making a cluster of brushes of each individually. It's annoying and time consuming.

If you wanna make a custom prop_door_rotating entity door, you will have to build a prop for every gib of the door, and the state of the door when it gets broken. You can also make a breakable door made with brushes: select the NODRAW texture, make it a func_door_rotating (make sure it has a name), then make the gibs (they're brushes, and need to have names too) as func_breakable and parent them into the func_door's name.

Yeah, but is ther any tutorials for that? How to compile it properly, etc. I meant door like in nuke, where you shoot it and first there small hole, then bigger hole, then debris.

You can use triggers near both of them and at each side and when you press E it creates a trigger which makes them open.

If I remember right the c17 doors are made of metal even if the skin is wood, but in HL2 the doors make woods sounds and use wood effects when the skin is wood and metal when the skin is metal. Is there a way to change this?

I know I'm 10 years late, but I'm gonna say this here for anybody else wondering; The particle effects that come off of things depend on their texture. If something is wooden, wood chunks will fly off of it when when; if something is metal, sparks will fly off it when hit. There's no way to customize what particle effects come off of what UNLESS, UNLESS you code it to specifically do that.

I need help, when i create the door.. the door: A: Clips into the wall, although i have it set perfectly so that its not touching any walls. B: Moves the player with it when it opens and shuts when they are close to it. C: Blocks you from exiting or entering as when the model opens. it acts like the door is there but it is not. you could select the handle prop from a prop_static, then make it a parent of the door. this wouldnt rotate the handle but it would be helpful. also if you are making a normal door, just do prop_door_rotating these doors already have handles! I love the prop_door_rotating because they have tons of skins! Look at the skins option in the information. Cheers!

+Stefan Perunicic I think the door entities are restricted in how they can rotate, they can only rotate around one of the three axes of the world, no weird angles. You could make a fake door however. Model and animate a door however you wish in your favourite 3D package, then just add it to your level as a prop_dynamic.
