Sourdough pita bread is easy to make and only requires a few ingredients. It can be made on same day or retard overnight. This pocket bread is so easy to pair with anything!
It is very fun watching the flat dough puff up beautifully in the oven. Enjoy and happy baking!
Ingredients
200g bread flour
50g wholewheat flour
10g sugar
5g salt
115g water
200g sourdough starter (discard)
15g vegetable oil

5克 鹽
115克牛水
200克 天然酵種 (棄種)

I made these pita's twice last month, and ohhhh they are so good and easy to make. I didn't know what to do with my sourdough discard and by accident (well looking for pita bread recipe's) I found this one. From now I can make pita bread more often, jehhh! I am happy. Hi. Thanks for sharing a great way to use up sourdough discard. Is there a recommended thickness for the dough after it's been rolled out into a flat disc?

If I omit the sugar, do I need to adjust any of the other ingredients? Also, how long is the time in the stand mixer? I've been making yeast pita for about 3 years, and I've been wanting to add pita to my sourdough breads. I'm use to stirring the starter in the water before adding dry ingredients, so this will be different for me. There is no vegetable oil in my house ever, can I use olive oil? Thank you

Hi, should I let it rise for 2 hours before refrigerate it or could I just straight away refrigerate it overnight?

You can use 2g instant yeast or 5-6g fresh yeast. Substitute the sourdough discard with 100g bread flour and 100g water

Hello. I would like to make sourdough pita but have no discard. Would it be ok to use Active starter? If using that, can we double the recipe while maintaining the same amount of starter (200 but active) to make a bigger batch of pitas?

Yes you can try. I’ve used a 2-3 weeks old discard for pita bread before

I checked the date on my discard, and it has been 14-days :). I made the pitas today and was surprised by the rise of my 2-week-old discard! Thank you.

I usually freeze my bread if I am not consuming it in the next 2 days. Thaw a night before when u want to eat the next day

Is that a special stone pan? Is it ok to use aNormal pan ?

It is pizza stone. You can bake on tray too. The hotter the surface the easier the dough puff up. 😊

Great video. I was looking for this recipe since a long time. I have a question though. Can we use 250 of all purpose whole wheat flour or do we have to stick to 200g bread flour and 50g of whole wheat? Thank you 👍

Do u need to let the overnight chilled dough to rest at room temperature before shaping it into small round balls? Can I shape it immediately after resting for 2 hours & bake it? Any alternative to bake it if I don't hv stoneware? Can I just bake it with oven without any stoneware?

it is a baking stone in the oven, you can bake on normal tray. The hotter the easier the dough to puff
