In elementary school we always started the song at "Over hill, over dale, as we hit the dusty trail", gosh, it's been since the mid-1960's and still remember. We sang all the service songs in elementary school in the 60's.

Good to hear the rim-shots in the hi-hi-hee part (2:21), though would have thought the Marine Band would have gone all out used real pistols in this case, as they did in their earlier compilation (kzbin.info/www/bejne/bISbZINrfrN6n8U)

Anyone else out there recognise the super-catchy trio theme of this march as that used by the Hoover Company for their television jingles during the 1950s and 1960s? "All the dirt, all the grit, / Hoover gets it every bit, / For it beats as it sweeps as it cleans." I gather Hoover copyrighted the words as early as 1922, just five years after Sousa published his march.

Have you ever heard of the U.S. Army Song? Long story short, It comes from the trio of this march.
@michaelhunt1579 Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasdavidsmith Thank you. I stand corrected. It appears that the original song (composed in 1908 by Edmund Gruber) was transformed into a march by John Philip Sousa in 1917 and renamed “The Field Artillery".

Very well done! Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, there are actually words for the main theme, which occurs at the 1:13 mark and they are below if you want to read them while listening or sing along. Over hill, over dail, we will hit the dusty trail and those caisons go rolling along. Up and down, in and out, counter march and left about and those caisons go rolling along. Then it's hi-hi-hee in the field artillery! Shout out your numbers loud and strong! And wheree'er we go, you will always know that those caisons go rolling along.

To me: the second verse to “The army Goes Rolling Along” fits perfectly to the second play through at 2:04 “Valley Forge, Custer’s ranks, San Juan Hill and Patton’s tanks, And the Army went rolling along Minute men, from the start, Always fighting from the heart, And the Army keeps rolling along.”

Adding modern lyrics to a 1917 song doesn't make it better--and the name is "US Field artillery"
