The only reason the Empire was upset is all there in this video, they no longer controlled the mineral wealth and that included the gold and diamond markets. But wasn't that the reason for the Boer War as well. Verwoerd's policy's were bearing fruit and would bound to be a success and thats why the English and her Allies destabilised our Country resulting in Verwoerds murder and all the Racial strife and murders in later years... the Brits feel squate for the people of South Africa because where is their voice that was so loud during Apartheid now in the currently situation?

exactly .plus the British gave ANC and SACP leaders refuge in Britain for years and allowed them to plan their terrorism against south African ethnic groups.

He was the most misunderstood politician in my lifetime. A brilliant man who wanted what was best for all. Some people didn't want that, they wanted everything and he got assassinated for that. His view was to uplift everybody and have a country where everybody got along helping each other. Uplifting those who were poor was paramount and each ethnic group to keep their culture. He had the difficult job of fixing the mess the British left the country in and realised progress would be slow and difficult, but he had a vision on how to please everybody.

Few people have this view you have and are often painted as racists. Verwoerd got much of the blame that his successors like Vorster implemented haphazardly. I cannot help but wonder what would have have happened if he was never assassinated... his briefcase mysteriously disappeared that day. What was in it? Many suppose a radical (and heavily apposed) idea to turn South Africa into a federal state like the US with many self-governing areas. We will never know. Misunderstood... in may ways, absolutely.
