This is beyond Jacob Zuma support. This is years of government failures and corruption that was engineered years before the '94 democratic elections. Let me unpack it for you in summary. 1. Zuma is alleged to have pillaged the country with the Guptas. That is not necessarily true, the Guptas were friends with presidents Mandela, Mbeki and Motlante. They have been doing business with all those governments, including the ANC and DA organisations. 2. Before and after '94 white monopoly capital captured all central economic means. This left millions of Black South Africans without any economic means to participate in improving their personal lives, and or contribute to the country's GDP. The white monopolist have 99+ exclusive contracts with the state worth billions but then complain when a Black owned business is given a 5 year contract worth 20 million. The Zondo Commission is not looking at the actual state capture. In a country whose resources are largely in white hands it is surprising that rarely are there Whites investigated, and people like the Oppenheimers, Rothchilds and Ruperts the real capturers are not called out because they funded the political assassination of Zuma who tried to the change the course of Blacks in the country.

Looting is one thing. But the targeting of key infrastructure like ports, economic corridors, distribution warehouses, chemical plants, even threats to blow up highly flammable materials at an SA Breweries plant is not just normal looting and civil upheaval. Really? Have you investigated the economic data? From 1970s to 1994 SA economy was going downhill very quickly. Then in the mid 1990s it stabilised. From the late 1990s until the 2008 global financial crises (which coincided with Zuma administration coming to power) all indicators saw really good growth, decreases in unemployment, low inflation and a stable and competitive exchange rate. In fact the Monetary authorities had to take action to ensure that the currency didn't become too strong and impact exports negatively. The Mandela and Mbeki administrations were able to get debt to GDP down from 49% to the incredibly enviable 27% in 2008. Other measures that were put into affect during those admins also protected the financial sector in South Africa from the worst of the 2008 crises. So SA had a fairly good recovery from that for a country with a developing economy. But during that recovery the patronage network was being built that facilitated the raiding that happened during Zuma.

South Africa is an ailing country. As an African living in Kenya i am very saddened to learn of all the troubles afflicting SA. Is there hope for my dear Africa? In Kenya we have sung of corruption for long- I must say- in absence of political motivations, the Ramaphosa government has done what no African country could ever attempt- jail a former president. I hope once the COVID situation is gone South Africa shall rise again. Looting and destruction of poverty is stupid- the economic pinch and repercussions of the same will be felt for years.

Thank you Al Jazeera English . Respect in interpersonal relationships means honoring and valuing other people even if you do not agree with their views or actions. Respecting yourself is also important because it lays the groundwork for respecting other people. Being a respectful person is a valuable quality that will help you both personally and professionally. Even when you disagree with someone, you can still talk to them and treat them with respect. You might even find that by acting respectfully towards others encourages them to treat you with more respect!
