@Colonel Of the 82nd Airborne Because they didn't kill out of bloodlust? Stalin might have killed more than Hitler, but not because he wanted to. He accepted the fact that these people die to cement his power. The Jews in Germany never posed any threat to the Nazi Regime. Yet, Hitler had them all killed. Why? Because of sheer sadism. Also, I can't recall the Soviets gassing their inmates in Gulags. Also, why do you want to point out that "Stalin was worse"? That doesn't migitate the evilness of Hitler at all, except you need to prove something to yourself because you're contemplating your political ideology.

Seems pretty reasonable. The only problem with Apartheid was the apparent neglect of the Homelands and the reliance on cheap labour. Instead of reinforcing the old tribalist system, the Apartheid gov should have used all available funds to heavily invest in infrastructure and industrialization, a land reform programme in order to facilitate a modern, profit oriented farming industry. Instead of rushing them into independence, they should have declared the homelands to be "autonomous provinces" with representation in the upper chamber of parliament only.
@georgev91704 жыл бұрын
@@pvtcit9711 I'm by no expert on this, but my rudimentary understanding is that most of that only really kicked off during the latter half of the apartheid (esp. Botha) era, when S.A. was already beginning to loose international goodwill, increasingly facing sanctions and foreign disinvestment. The great economic boom of the 50s and 60s primarily helped industrialising the white areas, while the Malan and Verwoerd governments were mostly intent on preserving the Homelands' tribal/pastoral identity (which in turn only accelerated urban migration and ultimately led to the downfall of apartheid).

It was made clear on SABC that beaches were open to all at the end of November of that year. Once the Summer Break started mid December there was the usual Exodus South including Zims & Zams of all shades ending up on Clifton Beaches. I sincerely hope it is your memory playing tricks & not a clumsy attempt at virtue signalling....I give you the benefit of the doubt. Secondly my folks worked in Zambia on The Copperbelt after The White Flight meant Kaunda had to go cap in hand to skilled workers from abroad to fill the gap. He had just declared a one part state in 1972 & followed this by a bit of his own virtue signalling by closing the Southern border with Rhodesia. However while he never missed an opportunity to boast about the closure he deliberately failed to mention that the rail link remained open so copper ingots could head down South to Durban & Cape Town. In my experience Zambia was economically discriminatory to a far worse extent to those of equal standing in South Africa. Rolling on 50 years I understand that Zambia has been significantly mortgaged to China who are busy asset stripping anything of value. Granted this is even worse in other African countries but it makes a mockery of independence. Finally if your Father is still around I would be most interested to hear his views on post colonial financially dependent Africa?

The economic and political systems in SA and other African nation's are the same as they were during colonialism. No change can happen in such a situation. Also, if you study colonialism, you will find that having economic power is better than having political power. Look at SA, whites own most of the land and wealth, even though Blacks have the polical power, yet no change, actually things have gotten worse. You need money to initiate change, to build schools, to build roads, and more diabolically (but necessary evil) buy politicians. Look at who funds the politicians in SA, and you will see it is the Wealthy, and who are the wealthiest group in SA? Now after apartheid era the majority of black people live in bigger poverty than before, shanty towns aith their tin schacks pop up like mushrooms all over the country with no infrastructre to sustain sanitation and healthy living standards. And where their were some sort off development and building schemes, not much came of it as the houses where poorly build and the allocated funds lost in corruption, leavingvthe people no option but to squid in shanty towns in tin shacks. The little houses could be very charming once made a home. We see this now in the USA for “green” purposes to live in small quarters. I would’ve instilled a birth control agenda to the Apartheid system that would pay you or trade with you some land for a “snip” job. This would’ve curbed the population issue of 12 blacks to 3 Anglo’s. The inequity is in the numbers. This would’ve facilitated a mature passing over through time of real responsibilities. With out proper birth control (volunteer via neutering ) apartheid wouldn’t hold up, and it didn’t because of the number disparity of 12/3 The sprawl issue, and medicine and over population were the death nail. The Pill wasn’t invented yet sadly. In the USA, people tended to all live in their own “gheto’s” for a lack of a better word. Gays lived in the Village of NYC. Anglo’s of all strips lived in Levitt’s Towns all over America. Blacks in the USA really did earn their Place over time. We are mixed because we have created equality through checks and balances and through hard work and great sacrifice. People here in the States really do have to prove their worthiness no matter who they are. The welfare issues were a mistake, along with the “projects”. Who ever you are: we don’t respect property we do not own. Ownership is the key. Apartheid only can work for so long, and several generations of resentment came out of it, and now 25 years later that resentment will be passed on for centuries in the future....like the Irish having to eat grass in the 1840’s, yet if they also grew beets they surely wouldn’t have starved. Germany suffered the same parasitic worm as in Ireland, but they (by pure chance) also grew beets. South Africa will self distrust as we are seeing now (2019) with the black migrants looking for work, and the marauding of Iranian shops and Chinese shops. This is a whole other issue of the inability to evolve properly. The toolbox still isn’t developed yet. They cannot understand that business isn’t personal. Business is just that. Business is like a good mold. The endless infighting of silly silly tribalism will be (and is now) their downfall. Only Capitalism can save South Africa. The world will not invest in an unstable ethnocentric Nation as it is now. The “rainbow” was a pure nonsense and everyone knew it to be so. By the way, the American South looked like a paradise once too. I miss Anglo neatness and cleanliness. I get it. But I also know that that’s all for naught if it’s only going to be destroyed beyond repair in one night of rage. The goal is to instill Anglo manners and morass into the greater culture. Nothing is more gratifying then truly successful black Americans who succeeded in unbelievable odds and made it. Equality is truly earned and you can’t take that away from anyone. Nothing is more honorable then to give others a chance to prove themselves. A Marriage doesn’t work when in separation, and not do a People. #gaysfortrump2020

Problem is the following. The increase in "lives" in South-Afrifa was not only because of procreation, but also because the country took such good care of its people, that all of the neighboring countries' people wanted in on it. En that is exactly how we fell into this pot of steaming shit!
@tylerdurden37224 жыл бұрын
@@brandenvandermerwe5352 That's true...but not the core of the issue. The real cause of the problem was Agricultural Mechanization. It was known by the government, in advance, that 30% of the black South African population would become unemployed because of agricultural mechanization. Homelands were created to absorb this inevitable sudden rise in unemployment and all the issues that come with mass unemployment. When you dump large numbers of unskilled unemployed into an closed off area, of course social issues will fester there. After a decade or two of festering, those neglected populations were reabsorbed en mass. The flood gates were opened. Everyone felt the sudden impact of change, but most didn't know the cause or the source of that sudden change.

I worked in Mamelodi! No longer a very nice place- but certainly not awful. I do think that separate development for separate cultures may be best (take the catastrophe that was Yugoslavia for example)- The problem with Apartheid (as I see it) is that it was not just. Land was NOT fairly and equitably distributed (the homelands for example were never actually viable as states), We white South Africans DID want to take advantage of cheap labour (instead of doing the jobs ourselves.) And there undeniably WAS the denigration and subjugation of the native cultures/peoples- if these things had not happened- we may have seen a much more just and peaceful South Africa than the one in which we find ourselves.
