I'm a South African Coloured person and a proud one at that. We have our own culture , distinct mannerism and language (95% of us are bilingual). But we are Africans first , just like black , white and Indian South Africans. Create video by the way. Hope our American friends can see our side of this. Because we fully understand there's. ❤

Being coloured now is a term that defines a collective culture. It may have started with race, but after years of racial segregation, the coloured culture has developed into its own real thing. Being black refers to a collective struggle against white suppression. Steve Biko explained it well in his book "I write what I like".

Cpernaum You're right, keep it in South Africa or wherever you use it. You're not bring it to Black America we don't accept it here. Tyla shouldn't call herself Black. That's not who she is. Let's face it NO AFRICANS, called themselves Black until a few years ago, it seems to be a POLITICAL AGENDA. The only people who call themselves BLACK around the world LEGALLY are Black Americans! But if you want to do business in the Music Industry in the U.S. and called yourself and highlight the world COLOURED, it's not going to happen in the U.S. and possibly you need to take you and your music where it is accepted!

Mostly right but identity is not a European or white construct. People did that everywhere from day dot. The differentiated for reasons of conquest and security. I am coloured from Zimbabwe, In the UK and most places I am black but even my black experience is not the same as for an example Africans with obviously African names (mine isn't) In some circumstances, I comparatively have doors opened, in others I have doors shut. I prefer the nuance of coloured or bi-racial because it acknowledges my whole being, my mixed heritage instead of trying to ignore it to use the monolith of "Black" which comes from a more insidious motivation of trying to prevent interracial relationships through the One Drop Rule enforced in America by racists that is now whole embraced by us as black people. I take comfort in the fact that one day everyone will be coloured/mixed race maybe that will save us from people clinging to their racial identity as a means of validation. Tyla should be allowed to embrace her heritage and indeed her culture because colured in Southern Africa goes way beyond colour it is an actual culture.

Ay Carvin, this whole social construct thing got us shoe laced (non South African context - when you tie your shoe laces there is an intertwining through the loop and a criss crossing that is basically used as a metaphor to describe a state of incoherence & confusion). So if we can all agree that we are African based on the shared continental location, we have our Arab brothers up North Africa that don’t consider themselves as Africans but rather as Arabs. They will fight tooth and nail to keep that distinction, yet they are geographically part of Africa. Also, all these borders that divided Africa into 54 countries. The laanies (colonial masters) met at the Berlin Conference in Germany and they decided where borders would be drawn. So to fix our identity we need to get rid of those social constructs like borders because they are imaginary lines. Why are we shedding blood in Africa to protect imaginary lines that someone else imagined for us? 😅 Cheers to breaking the molds of social constructs 🍻

I was listening to Candace Owens (a black American woman - podcaster) talking about having a "bi-racial" baby because her husband is white. Should her baby not also be "black"? Bottom line, in America if you not white, you black or Asian... and they even call Jamaican's "African-American". I think they confused. Take comfort though.. one day we will all be one nation :)🤣

Okay but Candace Owen's is a mampara. I mean we can argue about other things with our Afro-Amer brothers, but aseblief lets not do that to them... she even denied racism during the BLM stuff... I agree on what you are saying Candace is a grade a Mampara of note.

I think we all can agree that coloured is not a race based on genetic origin and we also can agree that BLACK is not a Race based on genetic oringin, because both words have absolutely no meaning besides the complexion of a person's skin. BLACK is truly African American ethnic culture; However, being AFRICAN/AFRO-DESCENT holds genetic consistency in terms of place of origin and both Tyler and African Americans are both Afro-descendents, but the issue with that is African Americans HATE being called African and Tyler on the other hand is Accepting of her African descendancy because she is clearly African, because you can see she share many of those features & Talents. the point im making is, AFRICAN is our RACE in terms of genetic origin and genetic families that have originated on the continent of Africa, "NOT BLACK", black is not our race. I am Afro-Caribbean, and if African Americans would Accept their Africanity as being apart of the original people of the planet, we would have no issue with Tyler calling herself Colored, because at the end of the day, She is still Afro-descent or Afro-asiatic because of her father being indian, and people, Please don't use the non sense example of ELON MUSK also being African, ELON MUSK is born African by legal right, but he is not African by genetic origin. ELON MUSK IS EUROPEAN CAUCASIAN BY RACE AND GENETIC ORIGIN

@@famousmwofficial8046 being 50% African by genetics is very significant. I don't even see how you can even make some sort of comparison between tyla and elon musk, as if your implying tyla is just as much african as elon musk, which would make you an idiot if your even implying that in any sense.
