The coffee one I heard for years. It always made me mad until I looked in to it. The woman was badly burned and her medical bills were way higher than she could afford (surprise, surprise). The majority of her settlement went to medical bills and court fees. The biggest problem was not that the coffee was hot, it was that the lid was not properly attached to the cup which led to it spilling all over her lap.
@raven3moon Жыл бұрын
Yeah sure got 3rd degree burns because the coffee was so hot (180 to 190° F). Plus there had been 700 previous incidents of serious burns from McDonald's coffee, with settlements in some cases. @@njd4291 It was negligence on McDonald's part, which is why they lost the case and changed company policy on their coffee temps. That poor woman had horrific injuries and suffered through multiple skin grafts and permanent disfigurement. All she was suing for was the money to cover her medical bills, and McDonald's didn't even want to pay that. Instead they spent waaay more money on lawyers and a PR campaign against her (which is still being regurgitated by people like you 🙄) But yeah ok, let's defend the negligent greedy soulless multi-billion dollar corporation 🤦🏻♀
@SpearM3064 Жыл бұрын
@@njd4291 Did you know that McDonald's had been warned, repeatedly, that the temperature their coffee was being served as was unsafe and unfit for safe consumption? Did you know that they repeatedly ignored food safety standards to save a few cents on each cup of coffee? Did you know that more than 700 people before Stella had required hospital care because of the coffee? But McDonald's didn't give a shit about their customers (or their employees) getting burned. "We're all out of fucks to give, but here's a rat's ass." Stella wasn't driving. The car wasn't even in motion. She was in the passenger seat of her grandson’s car, parked in the McDonald’s parking lot. The coffee spilled when she opened the cup to add sugar and creamer. She suffered third degree burns covering 16% of her body, along with having her labia seared closed. There are pictures online. If you can look at those pictures without throwing up, then it's a miracle that your testicles haven't collapsed into an earth-devouring black hole under the force of their own staggering density. Stella didn't ask for $2.7 million; that was the jury's suggestion (later reduced to just $640,000 on appeal). She only wanted $20,000 to cover her medical expenses. McDonald's response was, "Here's $800 if you go away." Before the case even went to trial, McDonald's was offered three more chances to settle for $300k, $225k, and finally just $90k. So, McDonald's ended up paying $640,000 (plus legal fees). They could've made the whole thing go away for just $20,000 but NO, they wanted their day in court, and they LOST.

I know that other people have told you about the older lady that spilled her coffee. I watched a documentary about her. The poor lady got 3rd degree burns on her groin area (there are pictures online). Back when this happened, cup holders in cars were not really a thing, not many cars had them. The McDonalds that she went to had gotten in trouble before for the temperature of their coffee (it was nearly boiling), and she wasn't the first to get burned there. All she asked for was help with her medical bills. McDonalds refused, but offered free food. Then after more bickering back an forth, they offered $800. Her medical bills upwards of $100k, so not nearly enough. So she took them to court. The judge is the one that increased the amount. McDonalds is the one that started talking bad about her to the press, to make her seem like a money hungry old lady. They sullied her name on purpose, and I feel horrible for her that she had to go through all that.

American here. I think I've gone to McDonalds perhaps twice in the last decade (Taco Bell maybe a dozen or two times). I have admittedly frequented Chick Fil A more often than that because that spicy chicken sandwich is the bomb (but the wait is becoming insane). I used to go to A&W drive-ins semi-frequently, but they apparently have such a hard time hiring people that I often couldn't place an order after 15 minutes sitting in a "stall". My usual breakfast is biscuits (sorta like scones) and sausage gravy, usually cooked by someone else, or peanut butter (with butter) on toast. I love eggs and if given the opportunity I will eat/order them. I also love good hashbrowns (finely cut fried potatoes). These days if I cook eggs it is usually scrambled in the micro-wave or on the grill with everything else. Peace, Love!!

I even had a co-worker who used a cane and walked with pronounced swinging gate. One day something allowed me to talk with him agout his story. He said he had had a bout of sciatica and he went to a Doctor who thought an operation might alleviate his pain and numbness. He came out of the operation having to learn to walk all over again. I asked him why he didn't want to sue the Doctor. He said that the Doctor had said from the begining that the kisk might be what actually happened. He had also been a biker and felt that the number of hours on his motorcycles over the years contributed to the sciatica complaint. The last time I saw him was a few years ago, when he came to my house on his new Can-Am Spyder reverse tricycle. He said the well made suspension didn't exacerbate his problems, so he was back on the road again. LOL, he still looked like a biker wearing a leather skull cap just to stay legal on the streets. We as a culture do not threaten to sue our fellow citizens, at least not in the Southern United States.

Also thought the coffee lawsuit was insane for years. Remember hearing a different side once and iirc she just wanted the medical bill paid to take care of the burn she sustained from coffee at near boiling temperature. The machine heating element was probably f'd or something. she didn't want money for "pain and suffering" which is essentially the "profit" part of a lawsuit like that. McDonalds refused to take care of her burn and she had to get a lawyer involved who of course sued them for an insane amount. I don't remember all of the details but I remember thinking it was actually a lot more understandable after knowing all the facts. This is coming from a person (me) who's family almost died by getting rear ended at highway speed at a stop light. Won't get into the details other than the car was totaled, we miraculously walked away without major injuries. Would have been a huge pay day if I had sued guaranteed but I didn't cause fuck that shit unless you have no choice.

I will eat them but not a huge fan. I could take them or leave them and will only make them every so often just to eat something different. They are super filling though.

I think she means well. I would take her views of America with a few grains of salt. I feel bad that any person would spend time here and this is their conclusion of America.

As an American, I think that the stereotype of Americans being ignorant about what happens outside of America is true. I lived in Canada for a short time and was surprised that they put more international news on tv than what I saw in the states. Most Americans don’t even know that Canada has provinces or could name one unless they live close to the Canadian border. Most of Mexico is not known to Americans either. They may go to the tourist areas ie., Cozumel, Cancun but that’s about it.

So your now doing reactions to reaction videos..?
@lane6866 Жыл бұрын
I enjoy Diane's videos and think they make for good reactions, because as you can tell, she's very honest about her own experiences and even her own naivety about things, so it's interesting to see if others agree or have weird things like that to share themselves. For instance, when I first saw this video, I was shocked to hear Europeans still commonly use spray deodorant. In my experience, most Americans went roll on or solid back in the 80s and 90s when there were chemicals in the aerosols that were bad for the environment. Spray is still available, but it's a tiny fraction of the shelf in a store. Also, I think with the whole celebrities in the news thing, she's referring to literally the nightly news. In the US, you will see things like Depp v. Heard right after news about Ukraine or some disaster. When I watch things like BBC or even SkyNews, it seems like it's only royals or maybe if something major happened, like someone dies or has a horrific accident, etc. Also, as I think you noticed, Diane is from the Republic of Ireland and lives in Spain part time. As there are many UK based reactors on things about America, I find for me it is important to keep that in mind because there is a difference between a UK worldview and a Western EU one. They're of course similar, but the UK sometimes seems more like a US/EU hybrid in some ways.

The mcdonalds coffee lawsuit just seemed like the tipping point for an all out free for all on suing others frivolously.
@themourningstar338 Жыл бұрын
You need to actually look up the facts of that case and stop buying into McDonald's soulless corporate PR machine. They LOST the case because they were negligent and liable. Nothing in your comment lines up with facts or reality.

I heard she had the coffee cup on her lap while she was backing out of the parking area and the cup fell over and the lid came off.
