@milkshakebabies2010 - thanks for downloading one of south africa great non-white groups of the 60's along with The Invaders, Rockets and Pacific Express, to name but a few. Like Britain of the late 50's and 60's, SA burst at the seams with coloured singing groups, langarm (Jazz) and pop groups. Very few had the opportunity to get to a studio record. Blessings to all the muso's (still alive) out there and enjoy the memories. Aubrey (The Zodiacs and The Cubans, P.E.)

I was in the South African Air Force (Permanent Force), Danced to their Music at a Hotel on the Esplinade in the 60's, GREAT STUFF!!!--------This was the same time America was Fighting the Vietnam War, fantastic music was made in those days, No HIV/AIDS. that music will always be heard and appreciated by all generations. We made Beautiful Love, (Not sex) ...Sex defined Male from Female....there's a Difference!!!

Gotta love that 60's vibe - I really like this version.
@Afrikitty12 жыл бұрын
@hunkatiel This was one of South Africa's top groups in the 1960's and 1970's. Their song "For Your Precious Love" was THE South African Armed Forces favourite for many, many years. What made them such a riot, was the fact that they were not white. That might sound funny to a non-South African, but that was the way it was back then in my country. However, they were EXCELLENT and they stole the hearts of all and sundry, nomatter the colour.

@milkshakebabies2010 I am glad you like these songs. They have been made available to the public again and you can get the CDs. Please read my description boxes. You will ALWAYS find links in them where you can buy older music, if I have been able to find these links myself. There are two links in the description box telling you where you can get the CDs. Yep, I remember milkshakes, creme sodas, toasted cheese and tomatoes and juke-boxes in cafe's. Somebody would throw in 20c, or somehing like that, and there would always be a place where we could dance. I remember we walked everywhere, and those who had bikes, usually rode them with us at the pace we were walking. We were fit and healthy and obesity was non-existent. You are right - no drugs, no booze and in the early days no cigarettes either. Today's kids wouldn't know what that even means.

I love this song - as a kid it was my favourite. I couldn't believe that an SA band could make such good music. However The original was done by Vanilla Fudge. There is an old video on KZbin of them dong this song with stage dancers (probably the first ever!) - note the brilliance of the drummer.
@Afrikitty10 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Clive. Are you speaking of the brilliance of the Flames drummer, Ricky Fataar? Or are you speaking of the Vanilla Fudge Drummer? I am glad you liked this video. It was a great time in South African music history. I had all their LPs. I have these two re-released CDs with Burning Soul and SoulFire. There are links in the description telling you where you can get them if you're interested. (*_*)

+Clive Kaplan The original was recorded in 1966 by the Motown group The Supremes. It Is a classic of '60's Detroit soul music, written by the great team of Holland, Dozier and Holland. This version is really good, like the Vanilla Fudge version (I got to see VF live in Chicago in about '68). Great drummers in BOTH bands. But let's give credit where it's due. None of these guys were The Supremes.

well to think ricky fataar was only 10 years old on drums....the wonder boy ....I played this album over and over ....ricky fataar in later years drum for beach boys when brian wilson died...Blonde went solo and i think one of the brother died ...my favourite SA band by far ...

Hallo, Ben, I think the Flames were the favourite band of many South Africans at the time -- and still to this day. (^_^)

I love this song...I like the original - I like it a lot. But this is a very cool cover...I probably like it better than the original...and it's better than the one by Vanilla Fudge, but I like that one too.....I stumbled across this version by accident....I really appreciate the history of the Flames. I looked for them on Itunes...and alas...nothing there.

Hey there, Juan, I've had very few complaints about that aspect of the various Flames videos I have uploaded. There is very little history on this important group in South African rock history, so I have put the introduction in all of them. It took me ages to find the small amount I have incorporated into the introduction. Nonetheless, I am glad you enjoyed the song. This is my all time favourite Flames song - even more so than, "For Your Precious Love" - that all time Forces Favourite.

1) The History of this band is important - I cant believe people criticize what took a lot of work. I say thanks to you for this. 2) There is a missing Beach Boys Double Album, with Ricky Fataar on drums, and probably Blondie Chapman too. That album cooked, some of the best versions of Beach Boys tunes. Do you know how to find it?
@Afrikitty10 жыл бұрын
Hi, Terry, I have no clue what happened to the Flames after they went with the Beach Boys. I know they changed their name to Flame, but more than that I cannot tell you. Yes, I had one guy go on at me in all my comment sections about the history I put into the videos, so I blocked him for a short while to shut him up, but I have since unblocked him. I put the history into the videos, because our channels get taken out so easily, and all my videos are backed up on other channels I run. I also back them up on external hard-drives. The information was hard to come by when I made these videos. It's even harder to come by now. On my Omega Limited video, I have had some of the family members of the old members, such as Louis Greef and one of the others come and tell me what has happened to them. I was also sent recent videos of Louis work before he died. Here is the link to that video @ South African Rock Band, "THE OMEGA LIMITED" with their 1970 hit, "Tchaikovsky One". Take care now.

Yes, it is. (*_*) I have simply put an introduction to the song in the beginning. Thank you for your comment.

Hi David, I have both CDs - Burning Soul and Soul Fire. I should put up some more of the songs on those two albums. (*_*) Merry Christmas, and may 2013 be a good one for your fandamily.

Hi, where can you get the c.d's? Used to listen to both their albums when I was a kid in Zambia. Think my brothers or sisters brought them back from SA on varsity holidays. Thanks for putting up.

"The intro is for guys who don't know the Flames." Yes, please remember that. This is an educational channel. "We" don't want and intro....." Who is "we"? This video has 5,521 views - I don't see other complaints, do you? These videos were made over two years ago. I chose to make the videos this way and few have complained. You, on the other hand, have complained many times. I GOT YOU THE FIRST TIME! Please enjoy WATCHING the video, but I don't want to hear your complaining again. Thank you.

Hi Theo, I'm glad you enjoyed this song. I had both LPs too, but they got lost somewhere in my journey through life. I have both CDs now and I really should put more of their stuff up on KZbin. Are you still living in South Africa? You take care now. (*_*)

It sure does. (^_^)

The intro is for guys who do not know the Flames. Nice touch, but I'd prefer to skip the intro when I want to listen to their music. We don't want an intro with each and every song. The same history lesson can be typed below the song for those who don't know them.
@Afrikitty13 жыл бұрын
@gooihom Perhaps you are too young to remember this group!
@Redrac3r11 жыл бұрын
The intro spoils it a bit. Rather get straight down to the music. Soul music was big on the club scene in Cape Town late 60's & early 70's. A number of bands did this cover. Like it!
