Eve had always wanted to set up her own cafe and imagined it would be after retirement, but at university she realised it was something she needed to do as her next step. Being born in South East London, she was keen to set it up locally to where she grew up. She's now manager and owner of The Pigeon Hole Cafe Bar in Camberwell.
1000 LONDONERS
This film is part of 1000 Londoners, a ten-year digital project which aims to create a digital portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it. The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life. Over the course of the project we aim to reveal as many facets of the capital as possible, seeing city life from 1000 points of view.

TRANSCRIPT
My name is Eve, and I'm the owner and manager of The Pigeon Hole Cafe Bar in Camberwell. My mum and dad are both from London. So my grandad was here, was living in Deptford. My earliest memory is actually staying with him. Deptford High Street, walking along in a very small, close knit community of people. And then my dad had the opportunity to move to Los Angeles, so the whole family, all five of us moved over to LA, and I spent my primary school years there. It was definitely a sense of home always coming back to London, seeing Canary Wharf in the distance, so I never really identified as American, I was always English. I always had, in the back of my mind, at some point, maybe in retirement, I'd set up a little cafe, and it just suddenly became quite clear that I should actually just be doing this, as my next step, this is the thing that I do after university. So I left paid employment, set myself six months, and in that time I was doing supper clubs and just really trying to make sure that people would actually be happy to pay for things that I was doing. Coffee is something that I'd definitely say over the last years, our customers have become more aware of. It's definitely something that you need to know how to do, how to make it look good. At the same time as well, it's completely ruined coffee for me - if it's not spot on, I'm just like "no, no, no, can't have this". The South East is my home in London. It always has been. So I definitely wanted to do something in the local area, and it was a case of, when this business turned up, it was in the right place at the right time, so yeah, so Camberwell was my new adopted home.
