South Georgia Herping: HUGE Cooters, Basking Snapping Turtle, Musks and MORE!!

Today i explore south georgia and find some massive suwannee cooters and a basking common snapping turtle!

Something about the hardness of a snail and perhaps the content of it causes head enlargement in loggerheads

I just found what has to be one of the most relaxed snapping turtles ever. I’ve had them on and off for close to 40 years. One for 21 years and this wild caught one is extremely chill. I thought maybe he was sick but than he polished off a bunch of worms and about 20 crappie minnows! 4” shell so maybe 2 years old, what do you think? I Made a video and uploaded it. He let me scrub his back for as long as I wanted. He’s never tried to bite me. Or even open his mouth.

I survey them for the state of Georgia and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. There are lots of video of them on my channel 👍🏼
