she had a rough childhood. she was born to a high class family according to north korean standards, however her father and mother had a divorce when she was just a child. evelyn's mom had to keep travelling between china and north korea to do trades. however, after travelling was banned, evelyn's mom had to illegally travel back to china, just so she could feed evelyn. when she got caught, she was sent to a hellhole prison. after she got out, evelyn and her mom decided to escape north korea. on their journey, evelyn's mom was sent back to prison as they got caught while they were escaping. they literally just took her hand, and dragged her to the prison. so evelyn had to travel all the way through different asian countries, until she reached america. she went to an american high school, and found an american foster family. however, it wasnt much better in america. she wasnt familiar with the culture or the language and to add to that, her foster family was vegetarian. i feel really bad for her, considering she went through so much at such a young age.
