So apparently, the announcer was one of the few times South Park brought on a guest star to voice a character, and when he started shouting like an excited soccer announcer, he had Matt and Trey on the floor laughing like crazy.

@@ryanhau1073that was like after a lot of pushing by that kid and several seasons in. Cartman used to be nice (mostly) and say he “loved you guys” about all his friends and no one said it back. They’d continue to rip on him too. He’s def messed up now but I think you can argue he wasn’t as much before & their lack of love/ kindness toward him along with the bullying made him into that

real cards, yes. But the context they were used in, how they were played, and the degree to which people got excited about certain cards being played at certain times (and the advice some of the kids gave each other, and the things they said about Gadnuk) made absolutely no sense at all... they were just spouting out Magic word salad basically.

Also worth noting that Randy calls himself The Amazingly Randy. It's a reference to The Amazing Randi. He was a stage magician who devoted a lot of his life to debunking people who claimed they had magic / psychic powers. He exposed a bunch of frauds by showing you how the magic trick was being done.

Possible, but going by the normal themes that they seem to follow for Randy, it's more likely just the direct meaning and not some convoluted hidden message.. whenever there is something weirdly sexual going on it seems to be linked to the "Amazingly Randy" or in other words "Incredibly Horny" ;) hehehehehee

All the card names being used in this episode are real cards, "Abzan Battle Priest", "Paragon of Fierce Defiance", "Crackling Doom" etc, they're all real cards. However they are absolutely not playing by the actual rules, they do things in the games which are not how you actually play Magic at all. But its still funny that they used real card names. XD

Not sure if this is an actual reference, but at 12:45 he calls himself the "Amazing Randy" which might be a reference to "The Amazing Randi", or James Randi, who was the founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation. He was a very skilled magician who would be invited to different shows to "debunk" a lot of people claiming they had actual magical powers. Examples would be people who claimed they had a magnetic body and sticking spoons and forks to their skin (I believe he would douse them with talc powder, the type athletes use, to minimize the stickiness of a moist skin and suddenly the person was no longer magnetic. Or people who claimed to be able to speak to the dead, or who could douse for water (or other substances). He offered a $1.000.000 price to the first who could, under controlled circumstances, prove their ability. They would agree on double-blinded randomized trials with enough repetitions to not just be pure luck. None of the well known names would go near him but plenty of people would apply thinking it was easy money.

0:46 - 1:06 The latter argument is the only one that holds any water. It's tough to accept for some people, but if you are not capable of attracting as many people to your product as another entity that produces the same but better product, then you do not deserve as much revenue. I'm sure they do work hard, but not as many people are watching it, so that's just how it is.
@MuljoStpho

Yep. And let's describe a hypothetical similar situation. Let's say that there are two people who have mastered woodworking and craft wooden toys / sculptures to sell. Both excel in their craft and are capable of making beautiful works of art with their carvings, but let's say that they differ in what kind of styles they prefer to work with. For example, maybe one makes real animals and the other makes mythical animals. Now bring in the customers. Let's say that 1,000 people buy the first artist's real animal statues and 10,000 people buy the second artist's mythical animal statues. Do the two artists deserve the same total income?

The real money is in advertizing, other companies paying for their brand to be shown at the game, the players using their shoes... And of course they pay more or less depending on to how many people the said advertizing will get. You cant expect someone who has a reach of 100.000 people to be paid the same as someone who has a reach of millions and millions.

1:04 There was a recent care about this, where the main issue with equal pay in sports is that women teams often opt for having a more steady income per game + healthcare, while men teams tend to go with a high-risk-high-reward option, with less (or no) guaranteed pay per game, but more bonus money if they succeed in tournaments. That, and of course men sports being more successful as a media business. With women being pretty much ~50% of the world population, i'm sure women sports could have just as much revenue, and thus higher pay for the atheletes, as long as as many women as men chose to watch it as men do with mens sports.

It is a business. Two people running a resteraunt might both work just as hard but if one is in an upscale area bringing in better paying clientele it makes more and thus has more money with which to pay its staff. Athletes are the same way, the entire income is made off public draw, if fewer people are spending money watching it it hazards to reason they’ll be payed less because they’re making the company less. Granted the fact athletes make so much and whine about their pay makes it really hard to care. Tons of people bust their asses every day at their jobs and make less in a year than many athletes do in a single game.

I always thought it was really funny that Kenny is the best magic player, considering he's poor and MTG is a pretty expensive hobby. Maybe he only plays Pauper 🤣

Randy Marsh absolutely needs to be in prison! I still love him though he is by far my favorite character! I used to play Magic in my late teens early 20s with my group of friends/roomates. Those were really fun years! Great reaction as always, I really love the Kenny subtitles!

The NBA Yearly revenue was 10 Billion in recent years. WNBA Yearly revenue is up 10% from 2019 to 2020 at a whopping 86 million. So... 100x the revenue coming in = 100x pay for stars. It is equality... just reality. Problem is people cry equality until they get it... then they want Equity.

Let me put it as simple as possible, I work in machining, I cut metal parts for a living. If I'm cranking out oh, 500 pieces a night, and on the very same job, Wendy is cranking out 5, night after night. We're both working the same job, we're both working hard, but at the end of the day, the parts that I'm making and thus the company is selling is paying for Wendy to continue to have a job, because if everyone was working like Wendy, the doors would close, so I damned well BETTER be getting paid more than her. Hell, she should be fired, because she's needlessly draining the company money when the machine is capable of putting 100x more parts out.

I love playing magic. Haven't had the time to hang out with the guys but we play when we go to conventions a lot. They got game table areas and we get to play with people from around the states. I got into magic 4-5 years ago and it's been funny, easy to get into. Funny episode and another classic.

this is so strange to me. Yes, these cards theyre playing are named after real MTG cards. But what this reminded me of is some time in like 2004 Wizards of the coast (creator or Magic) filed a lawsuit against Yugioh for naming one of their card types "magic" cards, and made them change them (now called "spell" cards) because it was too close to Magic the gathering. If wizards was so petty as to sue over something like that, I'm wondering why they didn't try to do something similar to Matt and Trey lol. Maybe they saw everyone else that tried and failed and didnt bother trying

Magic the gathering was huge and still is apparently since my SLC native and Pop star Post Malone bought a one of one card for $1 Million like 2 or 3 months ago. Turns out he is a hardcore fan since the beginning.

They got the Magic rules wrong in places where it feels deliberately wrong as a way of mocking Magic players. Which personally I found hilarious.
