That is impressive for his age. I remember in 3 & 4th grade I got big into reading and at my highest back then I would do about 150 pages in a day. I got back into reading heavily in my early twenties and would do 700-800 pages a day with much less free time. Not sure how that compares to other people but compared to me as a kid I think that’s a good improvement in reading speed.

So, Catcher in the Rye-it’s a book people either love or hate. It's basically about a troubled teen of the late 1940s named Holden Caulfield who's getting kicked out of school and wanders aimlessly around his home city (don't remember which). His entire worldview is jaded and cynical, and he feels like he has no purpose in life. Not a lot happens in the book, so your enjoyment of it will hinge on whether you can relate to Holden's perspectives. He also speaks with a very... let's just say that he _sounds_ like he's from the late 1940s. It's really not that dark or disturbing of a book. Its controversy is severely overblown.

maybe for the time it was written it was. I Remember in high school reading The Last Child by John Hart which was recommended by the Librarian were a 13yo boy was searching for his missing sister while dealing with his drug addict mother and abusive boyfriend and the boy stalked convicted pedos looking for any lead and almost being killed by one. Great book with a great plot twist good author with dark books i dont even like reading books.

Its funny by these comments seems like I was only one that liked the book. I didn't relate protagonist pov of world at all. But it was very believable character and writing that was easy to follow, him being unreliable narrator was first time ran into that. This was a nice change for school reading when it was mostly reading classics that had to keep dictionary nearby which often took me out of the scenes.

@@KurtisC93 not very really old at all 2009 but i remember reading and loving it and i hated reading in school but i say its more of a suspense thriller. If you want dark and twisted but really good to try The Road by cormac mccarthy a apocalyptic where the planet is completely dead no life not even animals or bugs so the only food is before the fall and people. I Actually suggest the movie first which is good then the book which of course is better, and here ones more the Darkest Movie I ever seen a movie you wanna watch once in your life russian movie Come and See best anti war movie how the Nazi went into Russia exterminating the people there like pigs. The beginning of the episode always kept reminding me about my high school years when my English teacher showed us multiple stories, such as The Scarlet Letter, Macbeth, Beowulf, & The Monkey's Paw, to discuss how & what these stories mean, by characters, plot, symbolism, & all that other stuff we're supposed to learn in English classes. & at that time when I saw these stories, I was really shocked to see so many crazy themes & messages these stories have. But now, as a writer, they have become the reason I was influenced by these themes & messages in my own stories. & now I have to ask y'all: what was the craziest story/stories you've read or heard in your English or any other classes?

If I was assigned to write an essay about Catcher in the Rye, here's how my essay will go: "I don't get the plot. What's the deal with Holden? Life isn't fair all the time. Make this book banned again. Don't release the horrible monster from jail. This book made a man kill a famous actress. This book almost made a guy kill Ronald Reagan. I hate this book." Then I will slam the book to the ground.

@@lisettegarcia7013 I agree with everything you said except the banning. The book should not be banned, but at the same time it ought not be required reading in school. Nazis ban books, not a nation with free speech as described in the US Constitution's first amendment.

If you want a book that has some surprisingly disgusting content, try Life of Pi. It's much more graphic than the film. It includes: - a weirdly detailed description of a rat's ballsack - Pi pissing and throwing up all over the boat - a few scenes where Pi picks up, and sniffs or tries to eat, tiger poo - gratuitous violence against meerkats

The Catcher in the Rye was seen as controversial by public back in the time period it was published. But by nowadays standards it's nothing that special. As how good the book itself, it's up to everyone's personal interpretations.

This is one of the episodes where the group of the 4 act like pretty total selfish jerks and hypocrites. There are others I think, well, there is one before the episode where gluten is banned, don't remember the episode's name, but everyone was totally furious and sick with them. BTW, I haven't read yet the Catcher in the Rye, but I have it in the shelf besides Clockwork Orange.

Catcher In the Rye is good, but like a lot of mofe classic literature your mileage may vary depending on how interesting you find like. Just thinking about how it probably hit people when it was written. It's still well constructed, but without that being a plus for someone it becomes less interesting, for me.

Dash I really hope you know all the little editing you do is cute and you are getting better at it! Also this is up there with the Christmas critters as hilarious episodes that just take a concept and run it so far into the ground it becomes completely nonsensical. Which is the humor Trey and Matt really excel at.
