There are two reasons I can think why somebody would watch someone else play video games, the same reason why they watch you do your reactions to South Park for one, and the other would be in order to see the game play of specific games if you're undecided as to whether or not you want to purchase the game to play for yourself.

The main reason I prefer watching someone else play video games is because I never really had money to buy games growing up and my parents made sure we were frugal with money, but even when they told us we could ask them if we wanted anything, I'd still be hesitant because of how poor I thought we were. Now as an adult with a form of income all of my own, I still don't buy games all too often because it's what I'm used to, that and the people that I watch are in fact entertaining to me.

I am 31 years old I watch a lot of gaming videos Most of the timr, it’s videos of people playing a game I have no ability to play. Example being that I don’t have any of the current gen consoles. My newest Xbox is a 360 and my newest PlayStation is a 3. I have missed out on playing a ton of theee current gen games just because I don’t have the consoles that play them. Also, I don’t have wifi, which just adds to it. Plus some of the streamers on KZbin and twitch are pretty entertaining on their own. That’s how I got into watching the Sidemen was watching them play GTA online years ago. Then I started watching more of their other videos.

I use to watch let’s plays all the time. My parents were strict about what I could read watch play and who I could hang out with. SpongeBob wasn’t acceptable there was no way in hell I could own a gaming system or video games. We were also too broke to get the games and have the hours to actually play it completely through, so sometimes instead of spending the money on a game that I could only play maybe an hour if I sneak around I could be on my phone watching the whole game from start to end. At some point I still wanted to talk to my gaming friends about the games even if I couldn’t join in so saying ‘ya I saw the new game sequel and holy shit you know that one part-!!! Crazy right it was so cool!’ Even if I couldn’t play it still was cool and it was nice to talk to someone about smt like games and not school/work/daily bs. Not a lot of your friends would stream themselves playing so the only way to know about the game when you couldn’t be there was to watch a different person play it and if you liked how they played enough games you could subscribe for free on KZbin

Ya ya ya, I am Lorde…Lorde, Lorde Lorde… (was pretty funny to see the actual Lorde react to the whole Randy Marsh subplot, she had a great sense of humor about it, not like Kanye’s dumb @ss) Been gaming for almost 40 years. From Atari to PS5. Played Warcraft on and off for about a decade. More recently was playing GTA Online. These days, I play mostly single-player stuff, working on games I never finished or trying games I was interested in playing, but hadn’t gotten around to before. Regarding streamers, depending on the game, they can be entertaining/amusing/informative to watch. I used to watch Hearthstone streamers in order to pick up strategies or get ideas for how to build an effective deck. I’ve watch RTS/MOBA streams to learn how really good players succeed. Some times I just want to see a speed run of an old retro game or to watch people just totally screw around on a game I’ll probably never play myself. Like I’m not big into FPS games, but I might spend a few minutes watching a streamer who’s really good fly around a map head-shotting the entire other team.

Tbh it feels like people might want the experience. Watching someone play a game is like watching someone react to a video. Or they want to see how different people make their choices compared to their own playstyle. The games I'm watching I've never played and the ones I do own I'd seldom watch people play it. If it's new and exciting, I'd wanna watch someone play. It's just a video but a game, I don't see the difference between it. Probably also due to me not wanting to get a console just to play one or two games that I'll beat and never play again. More replay value even if I'm not the one playing. Like the only issue I'd have watching is when commenters tell the one playing how to play or trying to dictate the game when they can but their own.

Personally I like to watch Let's Plays and streams about people playing games I have played before because it's interesting to me to see what other people think about the games I love, how they will play it, what their biggest obstacles are, etc. And even when it's a Let's Play or stream about a game I don't play personally, many of those people are great entertainers and/or comedians, similar to original videos and react videos.

Oh hell yeah, I game! Big fan of Markiplier and Jacksepticeye on YT (not so much of a PEWDS fan) and CoBruhs on Twitch. I love watching let's plays! but so many of the let'splayers are actually not that good at games but it is the commentary, and comedy of them failing that makes them entertaining. Critics on TV are totally self-unaware. I am a completionist so I just 100% Hogwart's Legacy and before that was AC Origins, and AC Odyssey, Valhalla is next but I am currently enjoying some down time with all of the House Flipper DLC. Looking forward to your next reaction!
