This episode comes a little bit from the Michael Richards incident. That makes sense but the creators also noticed that if there was a word as offensive as the n word but that applied to white people, then they would try to ban it from being used.

My dad and I were big fans of South Park back in the day. We watched this one together and at the beginning, Dad (who’s a retired English professor) said, “Oh! I know the answer!” I looked at him like, Dad, wtf? And he said, “It’s ‘naggers’!” Then he realized what all the characters were thinking, especially when it focused on the black camera man and he got really quiet and just facepalmed. Then he started cracking up and was like, “Don’t say it, Randy!” So we were both dying laughing already, then just the sad way they had Vanna White walk away tickled us even more. Later, when Randy says, “Well, like anyone thought it was ‘naggers!’” We cracked up all over again.

I've always appreciated how the SP creators use "offensiveness" as a tool for opening up social dialogue. To address issues & leave you with something to think about. There's always a moral lesson to be learned in the end. (Correction: there's USUALLY a lesson to learn. Some episodes are just silly for the sake of being silly.)
@thomasriddle8877

its why freedom of speech is important.. we need to be able to have dialogue about things instead of just having a reactionary slur in the chamber to end the conversation and assassinate characters instead of actually engaging and defending their position with logics and reasonable facts.. When someone just answers questions or opinions with "your a (Blank)-phobe of some sort, or a racist and bigot, even if that opinions is something as simple as "maybe we shouldnt house transgender inmates with females." Since the ones they did allow in the womens prison graped several women and got a couple of them pregnant.(This has happened in every women prisons that adopted these policies in the last few years..) well you cant have that opinion or even question the policy.. Its job loss worthy and ban worthy, even the people in the prisons cant question it.. So you Know what they did? They gave out condoms to the inmates, when only 1 person in the whole block could actually use the male condoms..

I love how they take real life issues and just switch places. Black people facing racism every day and being called the N-word? Now let's do that to white people. Americans robbing the natives of their homeland? Now let the natives take the Americans' cities. And in the end no lessons are learned because mankind never learns from their mistakes and they're too greedy and lazy to work for a better future. It's simple yet brilliant and so true.

They are, but specifically Trey. He's the one who writes pretty much all of the episodes. Matt himself himself even said "Trey's the chef" but Trey has basically said that he wouldn't do it without Matt, that he and Matt are "the band" metaphorically speaking. Matt's good at other things like he's more in line with a producer nowadays he'll argue with people and in fact he does do most of their arguing for them like specifically with like standards and practices and stuff like that. He also is in all the writer's rooms and he'll throw ideas out there, but as far as the music is concerned and the writing especially that is almost entirely 100% all Trey.

Actually that was the *point* of the episode. The white majority congress (or whatever that body was) banned "N-guy" but not the N word itself. Basically, they were deathly afraid of being labelled racists and were overreacting and overcompensating. Much like these newsies trying to manufacture outrage over nothing. This is one of the best episodes of a great show.
@bradhorowitz2765
@bradhorowitz2765 2 жыл бұрын
Your right. That’s because the episode tackles racism in a smart way that not many shows do. 1)it makes fun of white Americans who use the word and don’t get why that word is not good. 2)it makes fun of how white Americans jump to the defense of whites who use that word and how the “apologies” are cringeworthy.. Recall the Michael Richards “apology.” Jerry Seinfeld and Dave,both white guys, for some reason gave Michael Richards the time to apologize on live and both tried to get the crowd to accept said apology. Not only was that embarrassing itself, but as the south park writers noted, the apology was HORRIBLE. 3)the episode subtly looks at how social issues get magnified when it affects whites. The part of the Congress banning the word happened only because middle aged whites asked them too. In real life, the war on poverty got its big start not in tackling nonwhite poverty which was and has been the majority of poverty here in the US, but white poverty predominantly in rural areas. I always crack up when Randy goes on his monologue of how hard it is to be called the word and what it means, oblivious to WHO he is speaking too.

Because by using this phrase while in the context of a black person, the listener immedately connects the dots & gets the word nigharrr put into his brain. We should be more open minded to swear words if they are used in a conedic manner. Not sure why it would be offensive. The episode is clearly making fun of white people overcompensating so as to not appear racist, and the white people who victimize themselves for being called out for racism, AND the white people who seem completely oblivious to the fact that racism even exists all at the same time. Pretty great shade being thrown at the government at the end too. Definitely an anti racism episode.

@@benjamindorough6129 I agree, there's no reason for it to be offensive, but your summary kind of misses the point. The whole premise of the episode is "if the shoe were on the other foot", thus Randy's appearance at slam poetry, attempted lynching, etc. It was not an attempt to denigrate white people as a substitute for denigrating black people. I think you need to look beyond the face value of Randy claiming he was a "nigger guy". The final message was just how quickly TWO words would be banned in public discourse if they affected the race that dominates congress. Again, an example of "if the shoe were on the other foot". Meanwhile, David Nelson's (the little person's) pursuit of an undisclosed goal not only served as a plot device for Stan's new perspective, but also a way for the us to understand why people admitting "they don't understand" is valid. i.e. The audience will never understand David's point.

Mike Judge (creator of Beavis and Butt-head) did a series on ABC called The Goode Family about a couple of community college professors and their kids. The son was a white kid adopted from South Africa and they tried to raise him in African culture as much as possible. In the first episode, they did a joke where he was filling out a driver's license form at the DMV and the black employee notices he filled in his race as "African American."

In terms of Michael Richards career recovering, I think it was circling the drain anyway, and this incident may have given him a little publicity. Before he continued down the drain. What was really sad was within a couple days Andy Dick released an apology for doing exactly the same thing. Or, he insisted he'd done the same thing. No one else had noticed him doing anything similar.

The few muhammad episodes made terrorists threaten them. The scientology episode made Isaac Hayes (Who was a scientologist and voice actor for chef) leave studio and disconnect. I'm sure there's still plenty of hurdles to get past KZbin's copyright infringement detection algorithms though, those things don't care about the actual law sadly. However, taking down a channel on copyright grounds takes a lot more than just some erroneous bot detections, they'd have to throw actual copyright strikes at him, and if that were to ever happen he could fight this in court and easily win on fair use grounds.
