2-1/2 years since you made this video...we are heading into winter here in the Northeastern US. Watching your vids is helping me get in the mental frame of mind for another winter. Oh, and your wine experience and appreciation gave me even more respect for you. 😊

Your Antarctica videos are really interesting! It’s awesome to get a look into what life’s like down there. I’m looking forward to see more about the greenhouse and how all of that functions on the station. Keep it up!

Thank you so much!! I'm really glad that you're enjoying them and learning some stuff!! I will definitely be chatting more about the greenhouse in the future! But seriously, thank you! :)

Dude I just found your videos at the end of 2021 and have binge watched them all! Can't beleive you went back for a second winter for more pictures after you lost them. That is dedication my friend👍

The Auroras made me sooo jealous, I want to live there too, work, and do cool stuff like you do
@jameskurrle835 жыл бұрын
Awesome video man. The aurora looked wild! How do you keep the time lapse camera warm? You mentioned a camera box? Also how is mental heath down there over winter? Being cooped up and disconnected like you mentioned can be pretty rough on your mood as well as constant darkness. How do people deal with interpersonal conflict? Do you get vitamin D supplements?

I can relate to the Temp thing about not being cold. I was in Yellowstone one year for two weeks. Coldest they had in a while 30 degrees below zero weather for like a month. My buddy and I were outside hiking, snowmobiling the whole two weeks. Got back to ohio where it was 30 degrees. I was walking around in T-Shirts, LOL. I was so used to below zero. Found your videos and love them. Antarctica is on my bucket list of places to visit, would love to do what you do but too many responsibilities here. Keep up the great work and most of all enjoy life!!!!

Evening, Viktor... We've been enjoying your channel/content here this past week. I've been fascinated w/ the south pole since I was little. I think your doing an amazing job of sharing your experience there w/ the rest of us. The station there, too - I might add... is very fortunate to have you aboard. Thank you, so appreciating your efforts! First question... where are you now? God bless, & cheers to you from lake Ontario, New York...

Thank you so so much!! I’m really glad you’ve been enjoying it!! It was a blast to share what life was like down there. But I just landed in New Zealand! I will be here for the next year! And I’ll be making plenty of videos from here ☺️☺️

Hey man, just wanted to say thank you for sharing your life out there, it does help us “live” the Antarctica life a little. You share a lot of great things, since the internet there is satellite and slow at times, how long does it take to upload these videos? Also, can you use FaceTime or Skype to communicate with friends and family? One last thing, please make a tour video! Thank You for sharing!
@GoneVenturing5 жыл бұрын
Of course!! I’m really happy you’re enjoying it 😊😊 but uploading these videos is a bit complicated. KZbin is really slow so I need to put it up on Google Drive and then someone back home has to upload it for me. But with the good satellite video chatting is definitely possible!! And the tour will be coming towards the end, no worries 😉

Hello! You will be happy to know someone is enjoying ALL of your Antarctica videos 3 years later and I come with QUESTIONS!!! 1. What was the cost per minute (or however you remember it) to call back to the states ? 2. Gorgeous videos of the auroras !! When they are in “full force” are they visible 24 hours? 3. Clearly they try to feed you a variety “overwinter” but what food(s) do you start to crave that aren’t available? And finally- maybe I haven’t watched it yet- but did you open any jars of “forest air” with a buddy-- to see if they could smell anything?? (I thought it was a neat idea so I’m curious). Thanks in advance and safe journeys wherever you may go! 🫶🏽

I had to smile when you said you did not notice the cold. I was working for an auto company and we had a employee from Mexico here January it was below zero. I walked around with an open jacket my co worker from Mexico looked like he just got off the plane from where you are. I thought it was funny.

Hi, Thanks for you videos, fun and interesting. I would like to ask how is managed water management on SouthPole with respect of ecology. And second question are you in contact with other Antarctica stations, like Concordia or others..? Looking forward for next videos. Lukas
@GoneVenturing5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Lukas! I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're enjoying the adventure :) But as far as water goes, actually melt the Ice in one particular area and pump it up. It then gets treated and chemicals added to make it good to drink!As far as contact goes, we generally don't talk to most other stations just because there isn't too much of a need. But during times like Midwinter, all the stations send each other midwinter greetings, which is quite nice :) But thank you!! A new one will be out soon :)

I assume, but don't know, that there's probably a "technical internet" for science / administration, and then the "public internet" for Wi-Fi. For example, iridium offers 24/7 coverage even in the poles, but their speed is 8kbps (0.008 mbps) per "link", and multiple link can be connected together. It's really expensive, with each link being about $50 a month plus $1 per minute. So, they probably have that in place for emergency communications and constant monitoring of certain things, but don't want to let people use it to check Facebook.

Can you see all those stars with your naked eye, or is that something a digital/or film camera brings to us? The satellites passing over look like a bunch of bugs going to and fro.
@GoneVenturing5 жыл бұрын
So the camera definitely enhances it! Sadly our eyes can't do a 20 second shutter speed like my camera :P BUT. I will say that on that particular day in May, it was insane. Like the green was super vivid and you could even start to see some purples and such with your naked eye. But things like the blues are pretty much only a camera thing. But it's still incredible.

Great Videos! Since you do not have a sunrise and sunset how hard is it to stay to a daily schedule? Like waking up at the same time each day and the meals.
@GoneVenturing5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! :) But I think it all depends on the person! For me, I don't really struggle with it at all. At this point, I'm never even surprised anymore when I walk outside and it's pitch black no matter what time it is. It's pretty trippy. But basically everything is just based on the clock. So we know what time we have work, when meals are, etc, so you just kind of put sleep in the "night time" hours. But like I said, some people struggle with it more than others and there are a lot of people that bring melatonin and such down to help them sleep.

About your hard drive crash where you lost your images: Did you try a data recovery service? They cost a bunch, but if it's data you can't live without, it's worth it. Encrypted hard drives might also be recoverable.

You can't bring an actual pine cone onto the continent, but you can have seeds to grow things in the green house. Exceptions to the rules?
@GoneVenturing5 жыл бұрын
Yeah there are. The greenhouse started as a NASA experiment for space greenhouses, and so with that you have exceptions. It's just like regular customs where you're generally not allowed to bring seeds over borders without special permission!
@islandletters4 жыл бұрын
You probably meant Mbit/s and not Mbyte/s
@GoneVenturing4 жыл бұрын
Maybe! I thought it was byte. But I could be wrong! I don’t know much about that stuff 🙃
@PsRohrbaugh4 жыл бұрын
@@GoneVenturing a "bit" is a single 0/1 in binary. A "byte" is a group of 8 "bits". Connection speeds are normally measured in bits (or megabits / gigabits) while storage is normally measured in bytes (or megabytes / gigabytes / terabytes). To make the issue more confusing, the only difference between the acronyms is capitalization - megabits is Mb, while megabytes is MB. The pop-ups you showed use Mb, and with that being the common unit for connection speeds, chances are they're megabits. So, if you have a connection that's 40Mbps, divide by 8 to get the speed in MBps - in this case 5 MBps. So downloading a 100 MB file will take you 20 seconds - assuming you have the connection all to yourself. Also note that most connections aren't synchronous - the upload and download speed is different. So, when you see something written "10/30" that means you can only upload at 10 Mbps but can download at 30 Mbps. So uploading a video to KZbin will take 3x longer than downloading the same video. HOWEVER, most regular internet usage (Facebook / Gmail / etc) has much more download than upload (that's why the connection is asynchronous in the first place), so if you have a bunch of other people fighting for the download bandwidth but nobody else trying to upload anything, upload can end up being faster just because nobody else is fighting you for it!
