South River New Jersey Silk Mill Fire Including Aftermath | 4K

On Tuesday, June 13th 2023 I was flying my drone and heard sirens galore. I looked around and soon saw the source of the fire. Here's a short video showing the fire during and after. Sad to see the old Silk Mill go up in flames and also catching other homes on fire.

Incredible to see this, when was this warehouse used for? Any history behind it?

I believe it was all part of a silk mill around the turn of the century but later not idea what was inside it, I believe when the fire happened it was mostly empty.

@@robwasnj was this the handkerchief factory? or was that the building next to it with what looked like a brick belltower? Also wonder if they would let anyone take a handful of historic bricks.

@@AWSmith1955 It was the handkerchief factory that went up, the building with the bell tower still stands. As for the bricks maybe later but I went there yesterday to check out the rubble and a security officer that was hired stopped me as I walked down the street.

@@robwasnj do you have any idea on how this fire started? How could a abandoned building for atleast 15 years get on fire if nothing was inside of it

@@omnalokia9217 No clue, I'm assuming they're investigating the rubble. Agreed it seems strange but I suppose the structure itself is flammable. Could have been started by someone, wouldn't be surprised. Lots of old historic abandoned buildings fall victim to arson. The Brisbane Center burned down because of that, they caught the woman, she posted her crime to instagram! She was angry over a breakup and did it.

What street was this on? Been years since I was in that part of town. Years ago I fought two big fires in SR. I along with another firefighter removed the cross from the top of St. Mary's church during the fire and I was first in engine from EBIFC on the Clayton lumber yard fire.

Herman St down by the old silk mill. Ironically some of the trucks have a painting of the actual fire that took out the silk mill on them that were fighting this. It was huge, I start flying my drone from my house and could see it then drove down closer for some better footage.

Hi I’ve seen a drone about some time here in south river could that have been your drone ? It was shining red light

It's possible but with that said I often see other people's drones in the sky around here. At night mine would have blinking red and green lights and also an FAA compliant white strobe on top of the drone (required for night flight). If the drone is flying over people or traffic it's not mine, I'm adamant about following the rules and not creating a situation where drones become more regulated due to inappropriate usage. The night of this fire I saw at least 2 other drones in addition to mine, during fireworks shows I often count close to a dozen drones in the air.
