Love this, they say the game is faster today, yeah in some aspects, mostly due to the pitch conductions, ball and boots. Still, I love the grass roots of the game and it will always be my best memories. Thanks for the rewind in memories.

100 % agree. There are a lot of myths being perpetrated today… players were just as skilled and fast as today, just as players are just as tough today as there were then. Interchange has a lot to do with the the speed of the game… also the set restart has eliminated that slight pause in play.

Wow! I'd forgotten that we had green shorts sometimes. I only remembered either black or white. Bill Ashurst kicking "round the corner" style way back in '75. John Gray a few years later really started the revolution from toe poker to round the corner. It was good to see the old Redfern Oval again, even though we ended up with the wooden spoon that year after a promising start.

yeah i noticed that kicking style as well. I also didn't remember Eric Simms being so bulky. My memory had him more slender like Larry Corowa. But it might have been the compression on the video, everyone looked pretty stocky in the clip.

It should be counted as a conversion depending on how the deflection goes. If it falls in the direction of the two goal posts it’s counted. If it falls away then it doesn’t.

With the old leather balls that was a feature, especially if they were wet. Not like the synthetic balls of today. When they got wet they weighed a Ton. Almost knocked you senseless if you got hit in the face from a kick.😅
