The CBRL switchers were sold off to a company out east that was reportedly going to refresh them and sell them later on from what I gathered. More recently, the line auctioned off at least one more engine; a GP38-3. Not sure why they're getting rid of them, but they are. Sad though; I loved the color schemes; way better than the boxcar red panted leased units on there now. Ugh. You were recording the yard area just before they did the track replacement project! They did a LOT of work on the yard, and I like the results. Last note; CORP finally went through and did their own track replacement project around Glendale all the way through Wolf Creek. I think all that's left is leveling the ballast n they'll be done. They used all but one or two bundles of the ties that were stacked on either side of the line in Glendale! Shows how badly the line needed to be refurbished. Great video as always Dan! Keep up the awesome work!!!

Thanks for the info Mike I didn't know exactly where they were going. Good to hear they did lots of work in the yard. Oh wow that's big work on the CORP so that's good to hear as well. Thanks a lot my friend!

I've noticed corps been tagging rails and saw them working on one of the bridges a couple weeks ago Im wondering if this is just maintenance or they are getting stuff replaced for higher volume of traffic on the line because I've seen up run on the corp line a few times in recent years so I wonder if up will be running more often if anyone has any ideas I would love to know

👏👏👏👏👏GREAT video, Dan!!👏👏👏👏👏 🌧An overcast/rainy day in the PNW is what always made me feel GOOD! it's nice to see Oregon looking so green, except for the homeless encampments. I lived in Cheshire for a short time in 1981. Your videos just keep getting better and better, Dan. Keep up the good work, Sir!👏👏👏

Thank you! It is nice that it's so green most of the year. Yeah the homeless thing is just about everywhere these days... You're too kind!

Dan, again, this is such a great video. I love seeing the trains from your perspective, and living here in Eugene isn't a bad deal; it's beautiful.

Thanks a lot Dwight! You're right it's a pretty alright place to live. Great things to see in all directions.

I lived in Dorena (15 miles east of Cottage Grove) for a couple of years. If you never did anything when it rains, you'd never get to do anything! Nice videos Dan!

Thank you for this video of trains in the South Willamette Valley, Dan! The drone footage was magnificent. I enjoyed watching the video. Thne sky certainly looked threatening at the beginning of the video. (Posted 28 September 2024 at 1654 CDT.)

Good stuff Dan. I've not been over to the valley for some time and have forgot how much grass seed is grown there. Your videography is terrific.

Another goodie Dan-rain didn’t impact the quality. That northbound Starlight likely stopped at the south end of the yard because of a PTC penalty-caused by the dispatcher not entering the correct lead locomotive. During a PTC penalty the train will automatically stop because the system thinks the train is outside of limits. It takes a few minutes to reboot the locomotive computer and during that time the dispatcher has updated the data on their end. Fun fact- in the Willamette valley, east of Harrisburg, farmers grow mint plants. When harvested the area smells like candy.
@TheRailfanDanАй бұрын
Oh thank you Bill for that info and that definitely makes sense why they stopped at that spot then. I didn't know that about the mint! Very cool!

There is two trains in CB, one at CBRL office downtown CB .The other one is at the Log plant in NB. As of yesterday. .I live here.

Because I am not informed on everything Coos Bay R R dose why did they sell the locomotive? I see the bleu was gone but didn't know why. Thank you for your time Dan I can' seem to get enough of your presentations. Paul
@erockjam0810Ай бұрын
They leased some newer units from HLCX. The ones they are selling are very old and probably needed a lot of maintenance.
@TheRailfanDanАй бұрын
Thanks Paul! I am unsure and can only speculate as to the reason why. Maybe they don't want the responsibility of maintaining their own units anymore?

When Amtrak must use a UP locomotive, does it come with a crew? Or can the Amtrak crew operate it? Also, the P&W should get some of that infrastructure $$ and paint that old draw bridge.
@LouT1501Ай бұрын
Amtrak runs their trains, whether it be lead by UP, BNSF, or Amtrak power.

First clip, are those Superliner cars? Is that still a thing? Excellent video! Thanks for sharing
@TheRailfanDanАй бұрын
Thank you! Oh yes Superliners have still been regular on all of the Western long distance routes.

The storm clouds are very threatening, but at the same time pretty cool too. The early spring colors are beautiful, everything is lush and green. I'd like to ask something. When an Amtrak train breaks down like in this video, who operates the helper locomotive the Amtrak or the UP crew? By the way that was a lucky catch. It's always amazing when a Class 1 railroad's engine pulls a passenger train. Great update again Dan. Although the weather wasn't ideal on certain days, the footage came out wonderful.
@TheRailfanDanАй бұрын
Thank you Z! Yeah it was quite the cloud show that month. I had initially planned to have a much lengthier Willamette Valley video during this time but I didn't work out so this video was kind of an afterthought. For a while I didn't think I would do anything with this footage but decided I could at least make this short video. Good question! It is still the Amtrak crews who run the train with a freight locomotive.
@MarvUSAАй бұрын
I liked the video, but rather hear horns and engine power than elevator music. Thanks but no thanks.
@TheRailfanDanАй бұрын
I would rather hear train sounds as well but drones do not record audio so there isn't anything to hear.
