As a kid I played and hunted around Star Fort, same as my my father and grandfather before him. As a college student I got extra credits helping Michael Rodeffer, lead archeologist on the project for the NPS, on the dig. As an old man now at 69 years I live on Lake Greenwood 7 miles from Ninety Six and the Star Fort.

Most of the backwoodsmen were Scotch/Irish. There was no love lost between them and the British. Besides, the Scotch/Irish LIKE to fight!

Just a small point . . . . but an important one. The new country was called the united STATES OF AMERICA. Not the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Look at the top of the Declaration of Independence if you doubt what I'm saying. The difference is that it was a coalition of countries (STATES) under a Federal Umbrella with limited powers. The so-called American Civil War (essentially an invasion of another country, the CSA, by an aggressive and oppressive USA) effectively ended that coalition of equal countries (STATES) by shifting the power to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Now we get to pay the price for that . . . enjoy your slavery folks as we decline into total subjugation.
