In China, throwing sunflower seed (瓜子) shells on the floor is 1000% normal on restaurants and in Karaokes which are usually called KTV. Putting shrimp shells(虾壳) on the table(even if it has a white table cloth, not on a dish) is 1000% normal to see in any restaurant even high class restaurants in China. If there is any Chinese who dare to say I'm lying, please come and talk to me, i lived in China for 12 years and i speak fluent Mandarin. I also know that there are a lot of Chinese travelers that want to make hate videos agaisnt Japan to make more likes and make money on Chinese TikTok (抖音). And never forget a fact that Chinese and Japanese used to hate each other intrinsically similar to how British people felt about French people in the past. The Chinese travelers may be too loud in the restaurant due to their own culture back in their country but unfortunately failed to understand Japanese (very few people in China learn Japanese well). Just like any other minority, Chinese tourists may be very likely treated badly with racism cuz many Japanese are relatively nationalists. I have been told on the phone by real estate agents that a certain owner doesn't rent to blacks or to Filipinos or to Chinese and it was not isolated. I have been told I couldn't go to so-and-so place because I was not Japanese. It is widespread and entrenched. If the real estate bubble had not burst, it would be even worse now. A dead gaijin at the hands of police, or any Japanese for that matter, will not garner any real news coverage. The difference is they don't lynch people here but they throw roadblocks from all directions and the TV shows and news programs go right past it without reporting on any issues. In the U.S., people have been working on the problems for decades but in Japan, according to most Japanese, there is no problem: Avoid negative publicity and keep my head in the sand.
