The only thing that a random passer by like me might matter was that, applying for the license plates for the two or three regions respectively would cost you one million (or approx. 150,000 USD) in total for private drivers, so if you would like to drive through with your own car and you are not a millionaire, just forget about the bridge. It's only for public or cargo transportation.

I would say your last statement will not be right. Using a new bridge is different from buying things, such as an i-phone. A new i-phone, as a new model, attracts a lot of people to buy it because it replaces old models. This new bridge is not to replace an old one, but an alternative to the existing transportation to Macau and Zhuhai. So, it needs time for people to get used to it. Once people get used to it, traffic volume on it will gradually increase.

Just a personal opinion, the bridge is build to bring more connectivity among Zuhai, Macau and HK. I applaud to the concept behind this as it bring more business to these 3 connecting points. But currently this bridge is silly when drivers need 3 permits from Macau, China and HK or some special CCP related permit in order to do crossings... till it's open to all then it will make a lot of sense and cents.. and that truly benefit the people not just those selected few.
@mikechan20446 жыл бұрын

The bridge isn't silly, the regulations are. Actually, I'm glad the use of the bridge is highly restricted, imagine all the private traffic from mainland flowing into Hong Kong and Macau that already have miserable traffic conditions. The main purpose of the bridge is freight transport and not private passengers transport, it's still a good investment. It will benefit the development of zhuhai and surrounding areas.
@ABCantonese6 жыл бұрын
Hong Kong and Macau both lack driving cultures, and mainland drivers are not allowed to casually drive in HK or Macau, not that you would even want to. For the common man, this bridge has next to no purpose. Except for supplies. Trucks delivering things in and out of HK from the West won't have to join the jam at the old bridge. The bridge also benefits Cantonese living abroad, because a majority of them came from towns inland from Macau/Zhuhai, and HKG is the most convenient airport for them.

@juandenz20086 жыл бұрын
Some people probably just thought they could jump in their car in HK, then drive to Zhuhai and drive around there and do some sightseeing. But according to the story it isn't as convenient as some people expected because you need a Mainland Driver's License in this situation, plus some special permits. Similarly when going to Macau a special permit is needed otherwise you have to leave your car in a parking lot at the checkpoint (and then take a bus or taxi). This is an impressive bridge, but it seems aimed mainly at commercial coaches, trucks etc. For the average person who wants to go somewhere for sightseeing, shopping, using other transport such as ferries might be still be more convenient.

And it is sensible because both the regions have different traffic rules and even drive on different sides of the road. So to make sure everyone is safe driving licence is required. Now I'm not sure about it but I have heard that in US people from one state to another need that state's driving licence. This in a country where rules are almost same and everyone is driving on same side of the road. Now HK drivers will get another licence just to cross the bridge or for other things as well is your misinterpretation of the simple fact that hey need to get a licence. You can add or delete anything in this fact to serve your propaganda but simple fact is HK drivers will need licence for entering into mainland China. And I'm sure the licence will be not just for crossing the bridge but also to be able to drive in China.
