Southern Pacific 2472 is a handsome 4-6-2 Pacific type locomotive which operates in excursion service, the 2472 is one of my favorite "Pacific" types that still exist today in the modern era. SP 2472 is an amazing sight to observe hauling passenger trains throughout California, and I am glad to see this locomotive make a return to operation again as a representative of SP steam power.

How sad, I have always loved 2472 at Niles Canyon, but then I have absolutely always wanted to see a steam loco in Santa Cruz, street running, and through the old tunnel with the vintage wooden combine on the SCBT&P, and what better of one that the incredible 2472.

Any word on what is going on with 2472? I just stumbled across these videos saying that 2472 has made her final run and has been moved, that's it. Does anyone know what is going on a year later?

No word on the situation has come from GGRM yet. 2472 and the rest of GGRM's collection are still on the Niles Canyon Railway and none of it has moved. They are cycling their cars through the yard getting them ready to move by rail over the Union Pacific. What we don't know is when and where they are moving.

Thanks. Is there anyway to keep up to date with the GGRM. Do they have a Facebook page of some sort of newsletter I can sign up for?

+trainern8 The GGRM got a new home, I think somewhere in Santa Cruz. If that's the case, they can run 2472 on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway, and the Santa Cruz, Big Trees, and Pacific Railway. I wonder if she could fit through Mission Hill Tunnel to get up to Felton...

+trainern8 Santa Cruz is the proposed home of 2472. Nothing is final yet.

She's going to the new GGRM home at Schellville, in Sonoma County on the NWP line. They plan to run excursions around there.

@@Trainlover1995 Dont know if you heard (since your comment was 5 years ago) but 2472 is now in Schellville at the GGRM's new home! Turns out Santa Cruz unfortunately didn't work out, but some sonoma county steam will be nice!

How cool would it be to see a REAL standard gauge Steam locomotive who's crew wasn't afraid to "sand-the-flues" periodically and keep "their" their pump(s) on full volume and / or "kick" that stoker on to INCINERATE? Look, we all know that people come out for the "thrill "of seeing, (the above mentioned), not only for it's girth and presence, but doing what Steam locomotives do best...and that would be making "tornadoes" of black smoke upon starting and/or while running. God!!! My Country has been so "wussiefied" by the left.

Not sure what you mean by a "REAL standard gauge steam locomotive crew". A "REAL" steam locomotive crew does everything they can to maintain their locomotive by applying the best common practice. Making a mess of your equipment is not good practice. Sanding the tubes and flues once in a while isn't a big deal (if you actually keep your engine CLEAN), but doing it on a regular basis makes a mess, not only all over your valve gear, but in the smokebox as well. Oil fired locomotives, when fired correctly, do not need to be sanded on the regular. You also don't need to sand out to put on a show, and you don't need to put on a show and dirty up your locomotive unless someone in charge tells you to or if someone is paying you for it. Having the "foamer" mentality makes for a nice display, but doing it all the time does nothing positive for the care of the locomotive. MY country's foundation is being eroded away by morons. By the way, oil fired steam locomotives don't have stokers......
