Ok Marco, The rivet counters always like to post the first comment. Here is a technical answer: These model has "coast driver" gearboxes (google it to learn more) which in simple words for you, acts like a clutch. When this model is backed up by hand each "clutch" disengages and when power is applied forward they engage. Mostly at same time, but it didn't happen this time. I will be more careful next time when I shoot the next video. XD

It is a Coasting Drive model, but to be honest. I have various models with. They run absolutely fine. There is nothing like “clutch” parts in their gearbox. You are misinformed! The wheels will “engage” as the first teeth of idler gear start to turn. So, there is no delays. The Coasting Drive get bashing of people that actually don’t own these fabulous models.

Is this a layout that I can visit? If so, what club is it, & is it possible to join? I have an Intermountain model of this same locomotive SP#4294 in HO Scale, & I would love to have someone drive her, instead of sitting on a shelf!

Jeff Wilson, No, it is not your run of the mill plastic model with lousy sound, atrocious drive and gimmicky smoke ;) .

Even as a 4 yo pre-schooler I knew that the SP AC Cab Forwards were something special. What is the purpose of the baggage car? In the time period this video seems to represent didn't the SP mainly use bay window cabooses? I saw many CF locomotives on the L.A. DIvision in the early to mid-Fifties and I don't recall ever hearing the air horn used. Same for the GS-4 locomotives including 4449. The locomotive color scheme looks weird in the opening. Just reflections but maybe it's too shiny. The snow shed may need to be extended. There will be other bad winters to come.

You'd be forgiven for thinking the train was moving backwards.

Don't think so the Cab Forwards had a steam driven dynamo which I do believe was for electrical power.

This is confusing, it's like the engine is facing backwards
@alexandergarcia68156 жыл бұрын
I can understand your confusion. The AC -12 Cab Forward locomotives, as well as it's predecessors and some older models of engine, were modified so that the cab would be in the front instead of the back. The reason is that there were long tunnels in which the crew of the engine would breathe in the toxic smoke coming out of the engines, especially with oil-burning steam engines. So by turning the engine around, there would be clean air in front for the crew to breathe, and the toxic fumes would be behind them, which meant they would not breathe them in. So yes, the engine was turned backwards, and a front wall with windows was added to give the crew a panoramic view.
@slightlyistorical17765 жыл бұрын
Pooru Animations by Paul Gonzalez that’s exactly what it is. They flipped a locomotive backwards and closed the Cab. That’s why it’s called a “Cab Forward” locomotive

Is this a brass model? Or a modified Broadway limited engine
@truebras11 ай бұрын
What do you 🤔 think? They stand in very opposite: BLI ( mass produced plastic) or brass. BLI never made AC12 or AC8 or AC10 or AC11. It only made AC4/5. There are many differences between BLI ACs and AC12. Did you find the clues now?

What are those repeated hissing noises?
@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyan7 жыл бұрын
Zachary Nguyen that's the sound of the air compressor exhaust they go through too short pipes instead of vented out of the smokestack
@TexasRailfan21-RailfanRyan7 жыл бұрын
those are the air compressor exhaust going out of a short pipe and not going out of the smokestack
