Hi, this is a collage of mostly older videos of SP material. The locomotives featured are AC-12 # 4294, P-10 #2472, MT-4 # 4353 and GS-4 #4449. The trains featured are loosely based on "The Owl", "Morning Daylight", "SP Commute" and " San Joaquin".

As an SP fan, this puts me at the edge of my seat. Not only is my favorite reefer train pulled by my favorite Cab Forward locomotive on the go, but so is the Daylight, the Owl and other 2. I love all these trains!

In some of the shots the lighting is so good and everything looks so full scale it's a little creepy I'm thinking _Twighlight Zone_ creepy.

SP 2467 is a P-8 Pacific, not a P-10. But it was nice to see a Pacific Class modeled so well. Thanks for the video.

+This Guy Two Thanks, that is what happens when you are typing very late night. The P-8 is a PSC with "coasting drive". Very good model. Glacier Park also made P-8s but much more expensive. NJCB made very nice P-10, but with poor solder quality. WSM was the first ones to make SP Ps, but the P-8(or 10) are out of scale.

+Bastiaan Blinksma Hi Bastiaan, The MT-4 (4-8-2) is a Sunset Models from 1980's, The AC12 (4-8-8-2) is Key Models from 1984-85. The P8 (4-6-2) is PSC of 1995 and the GS-4 is MTH of 2011. With exception of GS-4, all the models received DCC, sound and lighting installed by me. In the case of MT-4, it was fully painted by me.

Do not know about the E unit with the PA B. But the colors are right.

+arthurhouston3 Of course I know, but trying to get hold of a pristine E8b in Daylight colors made by proto is really hard. So, the PB made the job. That was an old footage, now, I have 2 E8bs.

+arthurhouston3 Yeap! I don't think that Walthers released SP E8Bs in Daylight nor in Golden State colors. The E8a 6051 "excursion" was released which is the prototype to what I modified to an year before Walthers announced their model ;( .

+truebras SP Had loads of E7Bs and PAs. Golden State usually got E7A or E8As with two E7Bs. Overland trains and Shasta Daylight got the PA-PB-PA sets, but the SP only had 16 PBs and around 40-some PAs so not nearly enough PBs to go around. I've seen pictures of things like PA-E7B-E8A seemed to be pretty common. I don't believe I've seen any pictures or roster info on "E8/9B"s as the SP bought their E7s in A-B-B sets and had plenty of extra E7Bs around to fill out sets as they started wanting A-B-A sets of things. You could also see E7A-E7B-E8A type consists too. Very nice looking consists. Were those 72ft 4-wheel trucked coaches made from Walthers Paired-Window Coaches with new MDC roof's and 4 wheel trucks? They looked pretty convincing. I also like your TTG HW Baggage RPO. What did you kitbash that from? I certainly has the feel of a 70-BP-30-series car. I have one of the Bachmann Daylight painted diners I was going to cut up and rearrange to be a more accurate SP 10124 - which will involved repainting, not sure I'll go to all that trouble now that I've seen how nice your train looks. The only other thing I might say is the Owl usually didn't have any of the 72ft 4-wheel IC-class "Subs" from the commute pool. If you changed one of those back to having 6-wheels you'd have a good stand-in for the 72-C-1/2/3/4s that were regularly used in the long-haul trains with the arched roofs. Also the clerestroy-roofed 72ft Walthers coaches are very close for the 73-C-1s in the 2331-2345 class, especially the 2343-2345 which retained all their side windows for the HW San Joaquin in 1937. Again, Very nice work! NOM

+NightOwlModeler Yes, you are correct. As a matter of fact, what I have are E7Bs and not E8Bs as I stated. The coaches are based on SP commute cars, but not an exact copy. Yes, they started as Walthers HW paired coaches, but I changed the roof, trucks, windows and doors. It is not a simple job for first time kit basher, but it is doable. I got tired of being outbid on Ebay on Whistle Stop and Soho commute cars. So, I did that one. The shorter 68 ft coach will be eventually stripped off and repainted in olive green. I have a whole bunch of Sohos and Ken Kidder "Harrimanns" to make a branch passenger consist(s). And I intend to use the SP 2472 for that. About the Owl. Of course I know that it wouldn't have a sub. No need to point out that. Nor it had the obs parlor. I actually I have a couple of Osgood Bradley coaches that will be more appropriate. Then, the Owl looks to be the train that had various consists, because it wasn't a flagship train. Therefore, it received equipment according to its demands. Pretty much every year had at least one configuration. And it had occasionally a AC pulling it :). About 70-BP-30. It is a Walthers craftsman kit of 1960's-70's ;). I just refuse to pay 200+ for Soho or nearly 400 for CY or PSC. I have no interest about HW San Joaquin, but I want to make a correct one with SSL cars. The head end consist is the problem$. I don't feel like spending money buying CY or PSC RPO and Bag, but it is possible to make tem from kits. The HW modernized diner is a bit of challenge. It will require some kit bashing.

What brand is the MT-4 and what decoder
@truebras
@truebras 8 жыл бұрын
The MT-4 is a Sunset model of mid 1980's. It lacks a bit of details for today's models, but with brass parts you can make as good as priciest ones. It also can pull about 14 cars in this layout that has helixes with about 2% incline. The Athearn Genesis can pull only 5 ;). As far details and price for MT-4 with skyline boilers. I would put in the following order: Alco (late 1970's- early 80's). Genesis (2015), Max Grey & Balboa by KMT (from 1960 to 1974?), Sunset (mid 1980's), Key Imports (1984, 1996 and 200?), Challenger Imports (200?) and Glacier Park (2009?). Westside Models never made a Skyline MT-4. You can pay as little $200 for an unpainted Alco or Max Grey and all the way to 1.6 or 1.7 K for a GP. Any model of Key or later it will be far superior than the Genesis. I installed a TCS Wow Steam with KA-2 (Keep Alive). It is a great decoder that in it's "v 2.0" seems to have most of bugs solved. I've done all the paint lighting and some extra detailing in this model. The same TCS Steam heavy steam was installed in this other video in the French SNCF 232.U.1 with different chuff and whistle chosen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZK9iJuqrqiEnas This MT-4 was sold shortly after I posted this video.

Am I the only one ever bothered by the seemingly excessive whistle and horn blowing? Unless the train is approaching an at-grade crossing, I like enjoying the simple sounds of the engine without the unreasonable accompanying whistle or horn.
