All my great aunts swore to the powers of the soda added to the tea for clarity and taste. It’s like the trick of a dash of salt on your coffee grinds before you start your machine.
@Akula1142 жыл бұрын
A big Roger That on the salt in coffee. If you're resistant, just put some on the tip of your finger and add that. Tiny amount. Pretty soon I think it helps you enjoy any coffee, any where. Rather than being picky, I just compare the different tastes to what I enjoy at home. I just learned that a couple or three small drops of water keep the grounds from sticking in the grinder. (A problem with the little hand held Braun-type electric). Now that I'm beginning to enjoy tea, I can't wait to try the baking soda! I can see how that might prevent the caffeine and the tannic acid from forming that cloudy precipitate. Dang, the last time I tried to make iced tea with no proper Southern instruction it ended looking like muddy chocolate milk... I kept expecting a frog to jump out. I appreciate all the comments, funny or informative. Cheers!

Literally every southern family does it differently from the next. I learned to place 3 bags in a medium sized bowl of water and microwave then put 3 quarts of water in a pitcher and mix it all together with a lot of sugar. Im sure everyone would agree that nothing beats sweet tea from mcdonalds though.

I've noticed that when you add something acidic to tea, it loses some of it's beautiful color. By adding Baking Soda, I believe you are making the water more alkaline, which makes the color of the tea more beautiful. I just learned this from your video. Thanks.

we steep tea with a pinch of salt. we make a lemonade or limeade with sugar (I use stevia) then add steeped tea to that. Special Note: when preparing lemonade/limeade add sweetener first and mix well then squeeze lemon / lime.

i just tried this recipe and i love it!!! ive always been a green tea fanatic but ive recently been into sweet tea , this is not too much sugar i mean its called sweet tea for a reason :) i cant stand it when some sweet tea tastes salt like or bitter, i dont know exactly how to describe it but, i have a sweet tooth so theres no such thing as too much sugar . thank you (:
@Soxruleyanksdrool6 жыл бұрын
First off, if you steep the tea bags in the water OFF the stove top as the recipe suggests, then there is ZERO chance the tags fall onto the burner and ignite. We don't need to take precautions for something that, in this case, cannot possibly happen. Second off, I have always heard that southern sweet tea is traditionally served at room temperature with ice on the side. I guess I was wrong about this.
@drrd41272 жыл бұрын
We have ice tea in the UK but we don't use as much sugar so it tastes more like tea than sugar sometimes, we make Ice tea with soaked dried fruit, that's the best.

I'm from the south and I must agree that sweetness is subjective. We have always used the Kool-Aid guidelines. It recommends 1 cup of sugar per 2 quarts, so for a gallon that would be 2 cups of sugar. I have been known to use as many as 3 cups of sugar especially when making really strong tea and using a few extra tea bags. Also, Ice dilutes the flavor and sweetness, so we compensate for that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and their own tastes. Enjoy; however you like your tea! :-)

Enjoy everyday.
