Man, it breaks my heart to know that those old Espee SD’s are going to meet the torch soon. I used to see them all the time in the 90’s through Oakland’s Jack London Square. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if my uncle had worked on 2691 while he worked for Conrail. He started out servicing GG1’s and E44’s at Enola and got to operate them in the yard limits to and from the shops and then got trained to work on EMD diesels. Mainly 645’s but some 567’s. My gramps serviced steamers out of Enola with the Pennsy in the 50’s and it was his favorite road. If he was alive I’m sure he’d would have loved this video as much as I do.

Ex-NS locomotives are used rarely on the Mendota Subdivision. (Aurora to Galesburg). They are only used for local operations. But only GP-38’s are used. Not B32-8’s. Edit: If you want more railfanning hotspots in Illinois, you should go to Rochelle Railroad Park, the Joliet Train Station, (Both include diamonds), the BNSF racetrack (Chicago to Aurora), and Geneva, IL. (Union Pacific Traffic and Metra traffic.) The Racetrack and Geneva both have Metra train traffic. The Joliet Train Station may be a hassle to get on the platform however. (At least for me).

Looks like 2955's equipped for remote control, so there's already the beacons/antennae and what have you on the cab roof, hence why they had to fit the AC unit wherever they could
@Southern_Plains_Railfan
@Southern_Plains_Railfan Жыл бұрын
Huh, but how come other yard engines with RC capabilities don't have have nose-mounted AC box?
@ih1440
@ih1440 Жыл бұрын
@@Southern_Plains_Railfan 2955 has an Ekyrail EKYCool HVAC system that is a combined heating and cooling system, rather than having separate cab heaters and air conditioners like a lot of units are equipped with. They are made by Ekyrail to sit on the battery box and have two HVAC "cassettes" in them and can be changed easily with a forklift. They decided a couple years back to try them out, and they don't work particularly well. The CN has some units equipped with them too. They are relatively easy to change out, but the duct work in the cab is a pain, and they don't heat particularly well - they often get written up in the winter for blowing cold air. The battery box below also has to be modded so the battery can be slid out for servicing, since you no longer have a top access door.

I never got to see much bnsf were I was at BUT I did catch some cool bnsf units in Texas, one of them was an sd40-2 in the old Burlington Northern Paint scheme, then I caught a Santa Fe gp38 and I think I caught only one War bonnet I think the number was 754 these were probably my most rarest trains I ever caught unit I went to California and caught a pink ttx boxcar witch was pretty amazing! If I remember correctly, BNSF still has all original 23 of the GP60B units, and only 21 of the GP60M units I think two of them were severely damaged and as of now all the GP60M locomotives have been rebuilt and painted into heritage three colors and have lost their red and silver war bonnet colors the only originally non-repainted engines are the regular GP60 locomotives painted in the blue and yellow freight colors with BNSF letter patches under the cab.

You talk about the CSX power on the first train and how its upcoming heritage unit fleet is going to be revolutionary, but the question I have is, how rare are H2 GEVOs like the lead unit 7736 there? I can't imagine that there are that many out there and I feel like it deserved a mention as well, but maybe that's just me who's from Pennsylvania and has only ever railfanned NS tracks asking.
