Being born and raised in Waycross, the son, step-son, and nephew of railroad men, I have to say that the heritage units (especially SAL, SCL, SBD + Family Lines) is very special. I only saw the SAL video last week, and lo and behold, I was out walking around the block downtown Waycross and saw the SAL unit in trail on a East-bound train toward Nahunta. It brought a smile to my face.

My wife and I were in the car heading for my office in downtown Nashville three days ago and as we passed under a bridge where the CSX mainline passes through, there was CSX 1972 “Family Lines” passing over our heads. Sometimes you just get lucky.

@@distantsignaland I had a similar unexpected sighting a couple of months ago. I live near the CSX Nashville - Memphis mainline and I was returning to the house after picking up a couple of pizzas for the family and as I approached the crossing, the gates lowered and I said “well, I get to do some train spotting as the first car in line and out of the darkness came CSX 1869 Chesapeake and Ohio. Sometimes you just get lucky.

My biggest luck was driving around eastern Nebraska with my father, and along the former CNW line now UP. Went and checked out one of the crossings not easily visible from the highway we were one. There was a railfan there. Stopped and asked him what was going on, he said 844 was coming. I had no idea! So, that was lucky. Didn't have to wait long!

Excellent videos and narraration that needs to be shared routinely about the iron rails. I remember the SCLN from the 80s of Southern, Seaboard System, Louisville & Nashville, and Chessie System logos on display via engines and rolling stock. Definitely hope CSX puts more heritage units at work for you and all of us to enjoy viewing. Thx!!

That Heritage Paint, brings a lot of emotion for me. My Grandfather worked for L&N until Medically Retired in 1968 or 9. I remember when the announcement was made of the merger in the Employee Magizine, and the Formation of Family Lines. He was L&N thru and Thru, and felt it should have gone the other way. Sadly he passed away a few years later in 1975. I miss him much.

You know if you want Danny, another subject you could cover in your video's are SPECIALS & BUSINESS CAR TRAINS. But then again they too can provide the same issues as chasing down HERITAGE engines. They don't often run like they use to back in the 90'S, they could be anywhere on a railroads system, & it's mainly a test of luck to find any tips to their locations & when to expect them to pass by.

My uncle was an L&N engineer for 35 years. He started on steam engines and ran those for almost 15 years. When I was a boy in the 60s and he was almost retired he was running locals switchers and I would sometimes meet him at the south end of the bridge and hop a ride as he and "the boys" ran the route. I was the whistle (sometimes) and throttle man. Sometimes I rode in the caboose with the other "boys." The best memories. Danny, thank you, brother. It is definitely always a pleasure.

I remember when the 1973 (Chessie System) showed up on my neck of the woods. I was tempted to wait for it after getting off work that night, but being the responsible adult that I am I went home and got some sleep. It wouldn't be long, however, before I got to see it in daylight and got some nice photos of it. Being a Chessie fan, I was glad to see something out on the rails sporting.this colorful scheme. And despite the calls of many railfans for full-on recreations a-la Norfolk Southern, I think CSX did a great job...... although I do have a slight critique of the Chessie unit. Hopefully it'll make its way around the DMV again soon.

This is absolutely my favorite railfan site for several reasons. 1) Thecontent is interesting, as well as being well shot and edited. 2) I love the down-home friendly folksy Florida twang and cadence of the narration. Although it's less noticeable here in Dade and Broward because of all the New Yorkers. 3) There is the friendly Florida attitude where you can stand in line with a complete stranger and within five to ten minutes made a new acquaintance, and sometimes a new friend. 4) I live in southern Broward County in Pembroke Pines and grew up in Hialeah, so the Florida scenery in the southwest and center of the state is very pleasing. 5) There is the interesting history of not just the railroad, but the area in general. 6) Last but not least, the dining recommendations for simple down home Florida food, there's nothing like it anywhere else. Even if you are not a big railfan, this is an interesting and fun channel for good ole Florida boys, and girls too.

Danny I see you've got a new Key West hat, bravo! Though I am still waiting to put my dibs on a Distant Signal Productions hat when they become available. =) One regret I have from being retired now, is that I will never have the opportunity to run a "heritage" paint locomotive. I suppose running an old steam locomotive for a few months will have to do. It was such a pleasure being part of that program. Maybe one day I'll get to participate with another one like it.

Danny, I'm 77 and not too educated on youtube, but do watch your videos on it and believe I have signed up for your channel. My uncle was a train engineer on switch engines for the reading railroad out of Catawissa PA, in the 50s and 60's. He took me with him one day and was one of the most memorable of my life.. Never got in to train engineering however, and ended up flying helicopters. Quite a departure, but I still have the keen interest in trains.
