Overview development progress of RTS Link stations: Johor Bahru
(Street views version)
Development Update as 15 August 2024
Info:
The RTS Link connects Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands in Singapore, serving about 10,000 passengers per hour each way to help ease traffic congestion on the Causeway.
The RTS project is estimated to be RM3.7 billion after factoring in the relocation of the depot from Mandai in Singapore to Johor Bahru.
The RTS will not only ease congestion on the Causeway, the connectivity will also bring economic benefit to both cities.
The RTS Link will also continue to feature co-location of customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) facilities, so that passengers undergo CIQ clearance only once, at their point of departure.
The RTS Link stations will be well integrated with the local transport networks in each country.
When completed, the RTS Link will ease Causeway congestion, improve connectivity, foster people-to-people ties and generate shared economic and social benefits.

Singapore proposed heavy rail that matches their current MRT system. Malaysia declined and demanded light rail instead, citing cost concerns, so the design had to be scaled down. I think this is shortsighted. Demand is only going to increase and to upgrade it in the future is going to be very hard, expensive, disruptive. Look at the Kelana Jaya LRT line. The usage during peak hours is now beyond the designed capacity, even with the not-so-ideal original route alignment. It should have been a heavy rail system or at least a six-car train instead of the current four-car.

If malaysia wants to be a kingmaker, they would proceed with HSR. But stops at JB. So Singaporeans wanting to go to KL or Thailand or vise versa has no other option to enter and transit in JB. They have to enter, stop, and exchange in JB via taking the RTS. If Malaysia don't do this economy for Johor will drastically be affected as nobody will even transit or come down to JB. JB has to serve a very distinct role for a place of exhange.

@nick_1551 26 күн бұрын
@@MrEspionic the public buses are the contingency plans. Because the RTS run on its own route & there's no parallel routes as close as the existing ones already on the Causeway. At most, they may have free bridging services from Woodlands North to Woodlands Checkpoint, given that both sites are far apart. Bukit Chagar station? They may just ask pax to walk to JB Sentral instead. Or maybe they will have an internal bridging shuttle bus service once customs have been cleared on both ends, but this will be operationally challenging given the tight security needed.

@nick_1551
@nick_1551 27 күн бұрын
24hrs ops unlikely as it's a system. Systems need maintenance. And especially track maintenance which can only be done during off service hours. But we shall see. Maybe it's possible if they run in a single track formation while they maintain the other track & vice-versa. But the tracks at the stations will be another problem as they need maintenance too. Congestion from day 1 will be expected because of confusion with the new system & processes, as well as wayfinding. That's why the first 6 months is given as kind of a trial for ppl to be familiarized, after which, they will decommission KTMB's Shuttle Tebrau service

hard pill to swallow, but it’s true. i do think with proper planning, it can be solved, sometimes the state government has to do drastic, aggresive and unpopular decisions for a greater good (such as demolishing the old houses in the city center, but have to pay or relocate them by giving them compensation). but guess they wouldn’t do it since nobody has the balls anymore. they all wanna be reelected so they remain silent about this issue.
