Nice job. From the rust on the screw heads on the trim along the bottom/floor, I’d bet…. As water sheets down the side, any tiny defect in that trim sealant that gets water in there will be trapped and progressively soak through anything wood. For a 3/4 floor bigger than 8’ I wonder if the thing to do would be laminate 3/8 together with staggered seams, but it looks like your method worked great.

Did you have to support the slide out with a jack stand or anything? Retract the slide out to get floor out?
@SouthernGinger Жыл бұрын
Nope it came out through the bottom without retracting. It's supported from the inside but it wouldn't hurt to add a jack stand or something to help hold it

@@SouthernGinger thanks for responding. I have the same trailer and couldn’t find anything that mentioned the cable pullout system needing yo he supported like the hydraulics do. I have to replace the subfloor as well.

I just bought a camper for pernamant living 3 weeks ago and found out my sons room slide out is rotted. Its a flush slide out and ive watched so many videos but I feel like I cant do this job myself but I have to. I cant afford to hire someone and its just my 4yr old son and I. This video was helpful but still looks like the mechanics of the slide are different as yours stays sitting on top. Mine comes up from flush and in. Its a small slide, maybe 5ft but feel like I'm going to screw something up!
@SouthernGinger8 ай бұрын
Do you mean the arms are coming from below? If so my RV is like that too. That may mean you need to pull the rotted wood from the top and not below like we did

Whatever you screw up I'm sure can be unscrewed! Take your time. Watch the videos. Have all the tools. Get help if you need it. A helper is always good. Think it through. You can do this! Can't never could! The confidence, satisfaction and knowledge you will gain will be a blessing. And you will save some bucks! Go for it!

Great video. My question is when y'all put the two pieces of plywood together did you use something to hold it tight until the liquid nail dried off. 🤔 like some big oh clamps or how y'all did it?
@SouthernGinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you totally could use some clamps but we also added floating tenons between them to give is some strength, not just the glue. Also we added another 1/2in on top once it was in the slideout. It's super strong now haha.

Hi, this video was really helpful. I'm having to go through the same process right now. The floor in the pop out was completely rotted out on both ends. Do you have more details on how you got the new floor back into the pop out? I'm noticing there is a lot of downward pressure right at the transition between the pop out and the main cabin.
@SouthernGinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah we slid it in from the bottom mainly

We just glued a thick tarp to the bottom to help, might be overkill but made us sleep better haha

So glad I came upon this video! In the same predicament with the same concerns. I can't afford to buy the domino setup nor justify it so I'll just go for a tongue and groove instead. I was gonna back it with 1/8" flat plate. What are the metal plates y'all used?
@SouthernGinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand I just happen to have a domino so I used it hehe. The tongue and groove might work fine I would make sure you back it with something solid over that seem. Those plates are for decks and rafters, check your big box store for those

Great video! If you did go with the extra 1/2 on top, what type of plywood would you recommend with the pressure treated underneath. I kind of did what you guys did but need the top piece as well unfortunately
@IGroatman2 жыл бұрын
I put pressure treated under, but the top piece is going to be somehow exposed (with sectional carpet) so wasn't sure. Thanks!
@SouthernGinger2 жыл бұрын
Yeah we just went with a standard 12in ply on top and overlapped the seem.. under the couch we used 1/2 foam to save on weight

Helpful, but all that I need to know. I am a 74-year-old, 150 lb woman who lives in a 36ft 5th Wheel that has water damage in the floor of all three of the slide-outs. I am fixing the water leaks, but my rotted floor includes the wood beams or whatever they are that hold up the floor. Everything is rotted down to the outside aluminum on the floor. How do I fix that?
@TheDeisel99 Жыл бұрын
Did the tarp hold up from sliding? What was the mil on the tarp 10mil?
@SouthernGinger Жыл бұрын
Yeah we got the thickest one we could, and used construction adhesive to adhere it to the plywood

Did you have to support it to take the floor out?
@SouthernGinger2 жыл бұрын
No, we just muscled it out, the slide out will stay opened just fine. I wouldn't recommend closing it without a floor however. It becomes a little flimsy

As well as waterproofing the underneath, you will need to glue all plywood together.
