Would they hire a manager with little to no success at a major club? Yes, they've done it multiple times. Only in England do you have to have competed for major league titles and or the Champions League to get a decent club job. Also helps if you're from an in vogue foreign country. Which is why there'll never be a top England manager again, because the English managers that could be that aren't any chances to prove it. Even if you only look at managers that have only had success at international level, they've all done it. Rijkaard, Lopetegui and Klinsmann only had managed international teams. Big European clubs don't misplace so much emphasis on the manager, which is why theirs get a chance and England's don't.

Watch United People’s channel video on Gary’s career and you’ll realised that he’s a very good player. He became a good right back. The first few years he wasnt very good. Obviously wasnt good enough to play his preferred position at CB. Fergie just seemed to stick anyone in at RB. Paul parker was good enough for CB, so put him RB. As mentioned there with Keano, we'll stick you RB for a while. Phil nev, john o shea, wes brown, smalling all played quite a few games there. I think because a lot of those players could play other positions they became squad players. Gary wasnt good enough to play other positions so was left at RB (occassionally back in at CB if there were injuries).....If gary was playing RB for another club would United have signed him? No chance.

Although I agree he isn't the man for man united, I think it's harsh to say he "underachieved with the best english generation ever". His first world cup was far from a generational gift. The euro squad came short on penalties in the final, could have won but it's how tournemants play out. This upcoming Euro is the only time he has the favored squad, and that hasnt even happened yet.

Regarding the lower clubs needing the FA cup the replays, I recently learned that in Germany they automatically give the home game to clubs in the third tier and lower. That could be a great thing to implement in the FA cup, I think.
