@@screenjockeys I hope that Kelly gets to make more movies. . I consider his three films to be his Quantum Theory Trilogy, or the What The Bleep Do We Know Trilogy. . The reason that every single actor in Sothland Tales is playing against type (Is That Kevin Smith) was, to visualize the idea of alternative realities. . It's a film that was way ahead of it's time and with every election cycle it becomes more and more prophetic and prescient. I've noticed that the film is having a similar legacy that Idiocracy has had. . I'm glad that this film is finding an audience that is growing every year

@@GEMINIEARTHWALKER How did you discover Southland Tales? Or Donnie Darko, really. Just curious. From what RK has said he's never stopped writing. I know one project is called Soulmates, which is a great title. It's funny that you mention Idiocracy because we talked about that (and Office Space) in one of our recent episodes ---> kzbin.info/www/bejne/lX2cl5eoiq6UmNUsi=hJKYd3KZERsRXEdc Thanks for chiming in. @@screenjockeys I worked at Blockbuster when it came out on DVD and Blu-ray. I was already a fan of Donnie Darko, so I was excited for Southland Tales already. And for some reason I understood the context and meaning on my first viewing without knowing about or reading the supplemental material

Easily in my top five films of all time. I adore Southland Tales warts and all. I wish Richard Kelly got to make more films because I love Donnie Darko, The Box, Southland Tales and he wrote my favorite Tony Scott film Domino which kicks so much ass.

Saw this when it came out in a near-empty theater in the Beverly Center in LA. It was the only theater in the entire city where it was screening and I knew it wouldn't last more than a week there. I loved it for its incomprehensibility and rush of ideas and concepts that just appear out of nowhere and quickly disappear. It reminded me of the book the Sheep Look Up by John Brunner, which it may have been influenced by. I've seen it 3 times. The first time I thought it was genius, the second I thought it was totally stupid, the third, genius again.

donny Darko was not appreciated until years later... yes. a similar thing happened to it's a wonderful Life it is now seen as a classic and it is an incredible film but at the time the nation was struggling to pull itself out of the Great depression . and a film about a man wanting to kill himself and an angel convincing him otherwise by taking him into an alternate world in which he was never born. people thought it was too dark and it bombed at the box office. the only reason why we know it as a classic today is because it fell into the public domain and public stations like PBS started airing it every Christmas season
