@robc84685 ай бұрын
And any tiny minor fuel savings will be more than offset by what start stop costs in the price of the car and maintenence. If you really care about saving fuel put a few extra psi in the tires and install a drop in K&N air filter.

@@robc8468 For 1: putting extra air in your tires above what manufacturers recommended can increase your braking distance due to not as much friction w the road...the recommended air pressure is there because manufacturers R&D has shown that pressure to be the best balance for performance, breaking distance, and fuel economy. As for the Ken & Nancy air filter, they do nothing except make you think you're getting more, so you think you notice more performance. Truth is if the engine can't expel the extra air it takes in, the taking it in does no good. It's like starting w a 4" intake and 4" exhaust. You're expelling what you take in, then going to an 8" intake but keeping the 4" exhaust. The 4" exhaust can only put out so much so taking in the extra isn't gaining you anything.

Former Dodge Tech here, I’m a Toyota Tech now. When I saw the title of the video it caught my eye and thought ooo this is interesting. Every time a customer came in with this concern, 85% of the time it was a bad auxiliary battery. It would throw dozens of battery codes. Replace that small battery and you’re good to go 👍🏼 sometimes it would be annoying to replace them like on the Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators the aux battery would be on the passenger side, remove tire and the wheel liner and it’s right there in a small box with three bolts. On some newer Grand Cherokees it would be underneath the passenger seat and the main battery underneath the driver seat. Fun times. Great video really enjoyed it 👍🏼

A small piece of advice for the next FCA vehicle you work on with the dual battery start/stop system. Set the parking brakes before disconnect the batteries. Disconnect the IBS from the negative post by releasing the connector. Once the batteries are changed. Connect the IBS last, then place ignition in run and actuate the parking brakes. Your codes will all be stored and you can clear them first time. The only programming needed for a battery change on a FCA vehicle right now that is not a etorque system or PHEV. Is to run the engine for 15min then let the vehicle fully sleep cycle for 4hrs. That resets the IBS which will then update the SOC and SOH of the batteries in the PCM. Thanks for all the videos and information you've provided. You have actually taught me several new and better ways to approach diagnostics. I'm enjoying being an automotive technician again.

I'm glad you mentioned that some vehicles need some reprogramming after a battery change, not just a relearn toot around the block, or cycling hvac controls to recalibrate them. I recall the 1st time I put a b+ in a 16 Escape with the big 1.6 that came in on the hook. After said replacement, the transmission didn't want to shift, then it hunted around for gears like it was severely slipping. Rather than call the customer straight away, I decided to look in service info and sure enough, the ol ghost of Henry said that the transmission controller goes into a default strategy, so either use a scan tool to recalibrate it or just drive it until it straightens out..Subbies need an idle relearn procedure if the battery goes stoned flat or is disconnected for more than 1/2hr. So yes, Eric, I do watch even your 'How to change a battery' vids :) It's all good info.

I also own a 2018 Pacifica. Those are definitely the original factory installed batteries. You can tell because they have gray Mopar labels. Replacement Mopar batteries have a white label. Six years out of the factory batteries in these vans is very impressive. They usually fail within three years or less. Some owners have had both batteries replaced twice while still under warranty. No reset is needed on these vans when replacing the batteries, but I advise folks to leave both batteries disconnected at the same time for a couple minutes so the orange @ light goes away immediately. It will eventually go away on it's own after a few drive cycles if you don't. I know you would never advise anyone to do so, but if someone has a dead aux battery, wants to save a few bucks, doesn't like/use stop/start, and can live with the orange @ light, you can safely leave the aux battery's negative cable disconnected. Stop/start is permanently disabled, but everything else still works as intended (including remote start). Our van has been this way for almost 4 years. 🙂 You can electrically separate these batteries by removing one of the negative cables. I've found it easiest to remove the aux negative cable. I was happy that you acknowledged the need to separate the batteries and test them separately. Many folks don't which deems the test worthless. Eric, I do have one question. I have AllData and was wondering if the explanations from the manufacturer's service info is identical to what you find in AllData or is the manufacturer's service info usually more detailed?

I don't know who makes the Chrysler batteries but they are the best. I have a 2006 Dodge Charger which we bought brand new in 2007. It is not winter driven but it has been parked outside (we're in Ontario so it can hit -31 Celcius) 95% of its life with the battery never removed. The first battery lasted until 2021 with only 1 boost 1 spring to start it. It started all the other springs without any help. My 2011 Ram - original battery also until later in 2021. They last well.

First person in the history of the world worried about the start/stop system not functioning… long as it passes the PRNY inspection I’d not worry

I have taken classes on various start/stop systems and can honestly and biasly say, chrysler is the ones who got it right. It is so much easier to diagnose and fix than most of the other brands. It helps that fca wrote the description, theory, and error code definitions the right way so it is easy to understand and execute. You have a textbook perfect diag and repair for this one Eric! Thanks for the awsome video as always!

Start-stop system is disabled? Sounds like an upgrade to me.

We appreciate all you do Mr. O! It helps to see you run through the details even if it’s a battery replacement as OEM’s tend to pile on more electrical shenanigans on top of the battery. Cheers! 🍻

I didn't even know vehicles had an AUXILARY battery. Speaking of complicated, I saw a video on one of these Toyota Tundras that had the engine replaced. There were piles of parts and the entire front-end of the truck was GONE. I understand they also jack up the body like Ford does to service. I heard there are 3 water pumps, 1 for the engine and 1 for each turbo. No matter how complicated these vehicles get they are no match for Eric. GREAT VIDEO!

Who the heck fixes a stop start system? The first thing I did with my Buick was buy the module to disable it. One of the worst ideas ever implemented to meet emissions standards.

I watch every video but almost never comment. On this one, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who geeks out about interesting designs. Once you explained how those batteries link, unlink, and why, it totally makes sense. I like cleverness.
