In a previous video I had a look at a customer's 2018 Buick Encore that had the entire high speed data bus taken down by the rear differential module. Customer wants it fixed and the parts are here so let's find out if we were correct.

Things get soaked inside the car than you think. Its called condensation. I hade a 88 chevy Beretta and its ecu got fried from water and it was under the dash. Water ran down the wiring and inside the box. All if these electronics problems are not a problem on motorcycles and modern bike have sophisticated traction control systems with 6 axis gyros, engine management and abs systems. They're ridden in the rain mud, snow etc. Theres nowhere for condensation buildup on these vehicles like cars.

Whenever I have a connector that is tough plugging in, i just smear a thin film of dielectric grease in the female side of the housing and it clicks right together nice and smoothly every time. You wouldn't think the rubber would bind up like it does but clean rubber against clean plastic just will not slide. Oh and as a bonus the grease provides a little more moisture resistance!

Breaking down a circuit into parts to narrow down the location of a fault is the number one technique in any systematic electrical or electronics fault finding. No matter if it's your hallway and kitchen lights at the house or a complicated data network. Figure out how the wires run and start splitting to see which part has the fault. Then split that again, until you've got the culprit. Of course knowing potential causes of a specific symptom is also necessary, like in this case "loss of communication could either be caused by faulty wires or by a faulty module" and knowing how to distinguish between the two, in this case measuring the circuit's resistance to rule out the physical wiring bit.

I used to be a diehard Toyota guy. The quality has gone to sht with their trucks and I'm no longer interested. If you haven't heard, 2022+ Tundras are eating crank bearings like the cookie monster eats cookies, and Toyota makes a point of being a scummy manufacturer and blaming you for their bad engineering.
@Wrenchingandnursing
@Wrenchingandnursing 3 ай бұрын
@@hochhaul I do electric and transmissions as a specialty. The new Tacomas have incredibly weak transmissions. The torque converters in them are made of play doh, and their camera and accessory circuits have horrible insulation quality control and the modules for the cameras themselves are pathetic quality compared to what we expect out of Toyota. They still are probably the most consistent brand for quality, but they have taken a stark nosedive compared to their last 20-30 years. I don't have brand loyalty because they all make great stuff, and they all make bad stuff. The newest generation of Colorados are amazing trucks and I have a ZR2. The quality is hands down the best in the category in my professional opinion, but the great irony is that the colorados before 23 were probably the worst truck ever made with the 3.6, trans, and electrical problems it was plagued with from start to finish. We could pick any brand and find a long history of greatness and failure.

Steer clear of the Tundra. The 2022+ Tundras have engines that blow up and Toyota will drag you through the coals before they approve the warranty work. $32,000+ job fyi. Toyota is not the company it once was.
@hochhaul
@hochhaul 4 ай бұрын
@@Dr_Reason Neither is Toyota. the 3rd gen Tacoma was rated least reliable midsize truck by Consumer Reports 4 years in a row for engine issues, trans issues, howling and leaking rear diffs. All Tacomas are now imported from Mexico. The 2022-2024 Tundra are eating crank bearings and Toyota likes to play dumb and accuse you of causing the failure even though it's common knowledge that the engines are failing. The repair is $32k and they are not even replacing the engine with a new crate engine, but instead they send the dealer a block with pistons and crankshaft, and then tell the dealer to build an engine from potentially contaminated parts. Garbage company

Brand loyalty is moronic and Toyota trucks have been trash in recent years. The Tacoma is now an import from Mexico and was rated least reliable midsize truck by Consumer Reports for 4 years in a row, and the 2022+ Tundra has been having engine failures left and right, and Toyota frequently accuses the owner of being at fault even thought they know the crank bearings are failing due to bad engineering.

Been using DeOx-it for 40 years now, back when it was called Cramolin. I have yet seen anything that works better in all that time. Back then they just had red and blue. Red was for cleaning corrosion and blue was for new connections to prevent corrosion or for after using the red. There had to be a ground loop thanks to the corrosion that affected the power steering. After working on Land Rovers for so long that is pretty much the first thing I look for. Defenders have the craziest grounds and you can see all kinds of problems.

DeoxIT D5 is great stuff! I use it on switches for all the Radio's I rebuild. At 4:22, you said it all! I only buy Toyota or Honda now. This was a good one!! 👍

A PPS uses sensors to detect if someone is properly seated in the passenger seat and signals if the airbag should be enabled. However, a faulty PPS can cause the system to fail to recognize an occupant, which could lead to the airbag being improperly suppressed during a crash.

A note on Deoxit D, which I have been using in one form or another for 45 years. You don't need to flood the connector with spendy Deoxit--a little dab 'l do ya'. I typically use less spendy contact cleaner (Caig, CRC, etc) to blast away looser corrosion, then a quick, light spritz of Deoxit, then exercise the connector with its mate 5 or 6 times, to use friction and Deoxit together to remove remaining corrosion, then blow the connector with canned or compressor air and reassemble. The remaining residual Deoxit film will inhibit future corrosion for a long time.

Always great to watch your videos. I doubt if I will have to do any of this type of troubleshooting but might be handy to see if the tech on our vehicles is pissing on my leg..

Actually am familiar with Deoxit myself here in the south. We use it in audio/video production to clean potentiometers and contacts and such what. Excellent spray to have! 👍

When you use Deoxit D5, spray the female and male pins, plugs.... plug together in and out a few times to clean the contact areas off. No need to blow it out at all. The chemical is inert, no conductivity hose it up, leave it there.

I live in NC and not a lot of need for DeoxIT on cars. My primary transportation is a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer and it is pristine. So is my wife's 2001 Taurus. But it is used all the time on electrical equipment. In my media production business it is a must for audio mixers and all sorts of mic and instrument connectors.

I watch your channel a lot and am subscribed. I truly enjoy your knowledge and wit. The one thing that annoys me is in your intro when you mention the amount of females that may or may not be watching. If you come out of that cave you are living in, you will find that a tremendous amount of women not only work on vehicles, but also watch channels like yours. Keep up the good work.

I was a dedicated GM user until about the 1995 modelyear when my truck developed too many premature failures. I had been driving a Toyota car that I hated but that thing would not die. Lesson learned! I've been driving nearly trouble-free Toyotas since 2006.

I'm in the same boat with you brother. I was a diehard GM guy for many many years. I absolutely hate everything they produce these days. The cars (what few are left) are junk. The trucks have frames that basically turn to powder after 10 years here in the midwest.

When the Ecoturds came out, that was the beginning of the end for the tried and true GM 4 cyl. Then they decided to tack a turbo onto them..Oh brother. They put the final nail in the coffin when the 3.6 V6 came out. Now only the V8s are any good.

Now you did it! Amazon is sold out of dioxit. I was a chevy guy too. Until they sold me a new 1980 Silverado that broke down every other day for 10 years. It was my first new truck and I could not afford to replace it. Ever hear of a driveshaft breaking the welds to the yoke and falling out at a green light? It happens.
