Two ways this could have gone. Customer brings truck to South Main Auto Rapair, Eric O spends 30 minutes trouble shooting the system, identifies a chaffed wire, effects repair, and while truck is in, checks charge level of the AC. Customer gets a call, the truck is ready for pickup. Customer is elated that it's done and has many additional years of vehicle service. Owner takes truck to Stealership. They keep the truck for 3 weeks, then declare the truck needs a wiring harness @ $2500 installed, but will take 2 additional weeks to install. Second option, they offer the customer $1900 trade-in for the truck if he purchases another Silverado HD2500 or HD3500 with the Duramax. We know how this one turned out. Customer is a happy guy and South Main Auto has a happy customer.

Third way - customer continues to sweat until labor day then doesn't really need AC.

Let me guess he knows more than the people who engineered it. This is not rocket science you make this out to be something where 1 person in some liberal state can do. I fail to see anything earth shattering here, seems more like FAKE news comment. One can do this themselves and it is done every day all over the USA. No need to break out pom-poms.

As an industrial electrician, finding that broken wire was the satisfying eureka moment. Since I also deal with invisible angry pixies in my job, it's rarely visually obvious when something is broken, but I enjoy finding obvious problems like this. Industrial mechanics have it easy, they can almost always see what's wrong, for example a bunch of ball bearings bouncing off the concrete or a belt that doesn't seem to loop around and connect to itself like it's supposed to. When you pulled that thread of insulation apart, I laughed it up pretty good here, especially since you had already questioned the integrity of that exact wire.

Logical troubleshooting rules. Procedural step-by-step tracking of “how it should work”. And discovery of why it isn’t working. The way you collapse diagnosis steps is simply perfect for teaching. Power? Grounds? Command signal? No command. How many connectors in this wire chain? None? Ok. Let’s find problem with this wire. This reminds me how the Navy taught us how to find broken wires in wire looms in the A7-E Attack aircraft. You Mr. O, are a steely eyed missile man. Thanks for the great video!!

You are truly a master at electrical wiring repair. Your method of deduction actually saves time and is easier than throwing stupid at it like I see other mechanics do. Using the process of elimination is less costly than assuming that the freon was low or the low pressure switch was bad. I have seen mechanics waste money on buying parts that didnt need replacing, then after finding the real issue, still hitting the owner up for their mistakes.

Love your , how should I say this, your tutorials. I also like your saying- " If I can do it, you can do it".... For me, That might have been true 40 years ago. Just can't move and bend like I did in the old days..... The last work I did on a vehicle was my wife's 2000 blazer. Replaced the radiator and the fuel filter. The radiator was easy, but the fuel filter got me. I swear there was enough room between the torsion bar and frame, and the should have been, but my fingers could no longer make the bends. The torsion bar needed to be further in.... Really pissed me off.. Max frustration.. On a second note, you're spoiled! If I asked my wife what's for lunch, her response would be, " So what are going to get or what are you making"..... You are truly a gifted young man.

Wire repair 50 cents, knowing which wire $500

No couldn't be 500 dollars. I am guessing 150-200 dollar diagnostic fee. No charge for wire tape repair.

@@jaredstrehlein5605 Think he was just pointing out the actual repair was trivial, but knowing what to repair is the hard part. It's always satisfying to start off with what you think is an expensive problem, then discover it only cost $2 to fix. I'm guessing Eric charges a minimum diagnostic fee, (maybe based on an hour?), for those who might want to repair it themselves. I doubt that this problem took a long time to diagnose.

Very much the case. Knowing which wire = diagnosis.

@@Cheepchipsable If he found a wire causing my AC to fail, I'd gladly pay 2 hours, $0.50 for the shrink connector, $0.17 for the solder, and $0.12 for the butane. Of course, the recharge costs something too. But all in all, could have been a lot worse.
