Eric you just saved me about $500. 07 new style silverado grenaded the front diff, jumped up and hit and broke oil cooler cover on the pan which sprayed oil and set my engine harness on fire near the rear O2 sensors. I had my garage change the harness after I swapped the front diff. After they changed the harness i was still getting a P0036 code (O2 heater circuit) on my programmer. I let them do there thing and agreed to let the change both rear O2 sensors. Code persisted. They told me it had to be an ECM issue due to the fire. I found it hard to believe the ECM powered a heater circuit, but trusted them until now. I found a blow 10 amp fuse for O2, replaced it and all is well. My trusted garage will hear about it. I almost bought a PCM after i paid for 2) O2 sensors, when it was just a 10A mini Fuse

I had the ABS relay go bad on my 2005 Avalanche ,pump kept running even with ignition off . I pulled the ABS fuse and never had another problem with brakes . Cost to replace was outrageous and from what i have read a very common failure ,should have been a recall.

Eric, Thank you for your videos. You are my kind of mechanic: you're smart; you know your stuff, and fix what needs fixing, rather than looking for additional work that could be done. If something is beginning to fail, you call the vehicle's owner and give them the option of replacing it on their terms, or on the terms of the failing part, when it finally decides to go. A 'tip o' the hat' and thanks for being good, fair and honest.

Usually the only thing those EBCM units need is a couple solder joints re-flowed on the high-amp motor circuit. There are a few forum write-ups out there. Kind of a PITA to take off and pry open, but you don't need to remove any brake lines! About a 2-hour job. I did one on a Chevy Astro van last year, worked like a charm! P.S. Just snagged a used VERUS like yours off the Snap-On truck today!! Love it!

Hey motoYam82 . I have done that in the past but have pretty much quit doing that. Usually around here by the time they throw the code they are 7 - 10 years old and pretty well corroded. I even get near them and they just crumble. Have been making out pretty well like I mentioned in the vid getting good used southern units. Of course that is always a gamble too. Glad you got a verus NICE. Now you can get a junior tech badge just like me :) hehe

Gotta love those faults that can be found with a visual inspection. Wish all of them were like that. :-) It looked like someone may have pierced the wire insolation with a pin or probe and didn’t seal it up afterwards with liquid electrical tape or clear nail polish. So moisture got in and rotted the wire from the inside out.

Great video. Was kinda hoping for a little more info about the P0054 code though. My daughter's 09 Buick lacrosse had several codes. After some testing, I found that the downstream O2 sensor was jumping all over from almost no voltage to .9 volts. Front one was modulating as it should. Thought, ok, bad rear O2 sensor. Changed out the downstream sensor and cleared the codes. (Other codes not related to emissions were also repaired and cleared) The next morning she started the car and it went into this P0054 code. It didn't have this one initially. After doing some research, I OHMed the new sensor. Heater circuit checked out fine. Step 2. Checked to see if O2 sensor is getting 12 volts. It is! ANY ideas which way I should look from here? I left her my scan took and she has cleared the P0054. Works fine until the next time she starts the car when it's completely cold. Then P0054 again.

If you have sensor problems especially with Chevrolet products and can't find the problem check the On Star sensor. No dealer I went to for help found problem. Battery going dead. After 3 batteries, 2 alternators, and 5 car repair businesses the problem found. The last company couldn't find ,but took it to a repair shop was expert in electric problems and found the sensor problem. Spent around 1500 dollars all told for the On Star sensor.

Well done- I change all 4 - O2'S on my trucks every spark plug change 100 km. For me it's preventive maintenance , now try and sell that to a customer , no way, everybody seems to think maintenance is required when a light appears on the dash. Eric do you have customers ever show up with a vehicle that has been under coated to slow down the rust. My 12 year old Silverado and 5 year old F150 look like almost new underneath.

I’m going to be moving from sunny California to cold as hell Michigan in the near future and am seriously worried about my vehicles rusting up from the salt on the roads. My rides are currently 10+ years old and rust free. I don’t want to have to get a tetanus shot every time I climb underneath my truck (which is often) and was considering getting them under coated. South Main Auto Repair, are you saying its not worth it? How does the under coating effect getting sockets on bolts etc? Thanks...

Oh man tough question, I have been in the rust belt my whole life and have yet to see and magic juice really preserve a car yet. Most of what I see only gets the car a few extra years of life but it still ends up turning into soda cans...I guess long and short of it is I personally feel washing the under body is the best but not really practical with out a heated shop to do it in... I don't really know the answer I guess.

My Toyota requires OEM sensors that talk to the computer. Any after market junk sensors will keep tripping the code due to, I believe, quality assurance and tolerances, which do not meet manufacture specifications.

I currently have that intermittent abs problem on my '03. the local dealer has that module plus the brake lines from it to the master for $150. but its only the ones that have the braided lines from the master about a foot back from it. I'm lucky that's what I have. but I haven't done it yet, only acts up when its -30c, and goes away after 2 key cycles. have done a couple of these, but not for the module. where I am in Canada with all the salt on the roads and mud in the summer, the whole group of brake lines from just above and behind the left front wheel to back under the door they completely rust out. for that price we have been finding it sometimes cheaper and easier to do that. we worked it out and it was costing more to bend and flare new brake lines, and with a problem with these modules, why not.
@SouthMainAuto
@SouthMainAuto 9 жыл бұрын
He kenman1717 thanks for sharing. Didn't know the dealer made a brake line kit for these. I will def be checking into that. I have done lots and lots of brake lines on these Chevy trucks that's for sure. Sounds like the area you live in is similar to ours. Two seasons, Salt and Mud haha...
@kenman1717
@kenman1717 9 жыл бұрын
I didn't either until a year ago around this time. an avalance was towed in, all the lines from the module to the master where rusted through. when I discovered the braided flex hoses coming off the master is when I called the dealer. they said the kit is the same for the trucks, providing it has those braided flex hose, because some don't. but I'm wondering it that's just the brake lines, surely that module would be the same. o yeah salt and mud. -30c in the winter, +100c in the summer or just non stop rain.

Well done video. Clear concise and calm. Thank you. I have a 2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali with codes P0060, P0054, P0053. I am assuming 1 of them might be a problem creating domino's effect. Best solution is to test 0060 first and move on. Would that be correct? Lastly, hoping you might be able to provide insight on traction control issue. Back in 2010 the traction control would kick in on dry pavement every time you start up slowly from a stop position. Supposedly dealer never found code and after leaving it overnight to test drive they could not duplicate. CAPITAL B.S. All these years the 1st thing when driving vehicle is turn off traction control and no issue. After taking it in a couple of times they said C0455 appeared and checked bulletin and found update software, reprogram VSES module (vehicle stability enhanced supply module). They suggested try replacing, this and that, spend some money for no guarantee the problem would be resolved. Do you think it could be the steering wheel position sensor? The ABS light has never turned on. Just recently the ABS has made a noise at the very end of the stop but no issues stopping. I know the ABS and traction work in tandem. Any thoughts? Still like the vehicle but not fair to spend that kind of money and have a daily annoyance. Thanks Michael

How can I just use the scope on the rope without the scan tool with the heater on? Should I start the truck then probe it with the scope? I need to see if there is a solid connection from the bank1 sensor 2. 2005 dakota 4.7L 4x4 slt fault code P0141.

Great video! I have those exact same 3 codes P0036, P0054 and P0141 on my 2010 Chevrolet express 1500 4.3L. What was the part # of that denso O2 sensor you used? My van is pushing 600k and it runs awesome, but the wiring on it is what has the issues and has caused me lots of headaches over it's time i must say. A few weeks ago i went to start it and it cranked, then died within seconds. I was like hmmm what hell could that be? I know now to check the wiring before i even think of changing out the parts. Turned out the power wire to the fuel pump corroded the exact same way the 02 sensor wire you pulled apart in this video. I call it the green decease lol. There should be vaccinations kinda like the flu shot, that protects our vehicles from the darn salt virus :-P

good video Eric as always this location was super easy but how is about some bad design location do you have the tool for it if it was. I know there is special socket kit to make the job easier by the way the 100th video TOOL BOX TOUR will be awesome thank you for sharing.

Hey j georges . Your right this one did allow us to hop on the gravy train and take a ride. There are 02 sensor sockets and if I get to I can show the use of them in the future. We will have to wait and see what rolls through the bay doors :)
@dirkdaddy2
@dirkdaddy2 5 жыл бұрын
The o2 sensor socket just has a slot in it to allow the wire to stick out while you use it. I bought one long time ago but honestly unless they are really stuck on there a combination wrench as shown works. No doubt there maybe some cars where its a lot tighter and it might best option.

It's funny I had a guy working with me for a while that's was pretty lazy to say the least and all he really did was follow me around. I wish I had given him a camera. Maybe he could of earned his pay. Lol. I basically have a full service repair shop but we come to you so it's not at a fixed location. I love it but in the freezing cold and snow it's a lot more difficult to work. I do have a small shop I keep large items at but my customers are so used to the convenience that I don't even mention it. Lol
