Just like skinning a cat there are many ways to get the job done. Being a professional shop I will typically use the tools I have at hand to diagnose in the most efficient way possible. However, in this video I use a combination of techniques to help us find the fault. Just remember, there is no wrong way of doing it if you end up with the correct answer. However, there is usually a more efficient way to do things. -Enjoy!

Like when I used to do winterizations on RVs, everyone had an opinion on the right way to do it. I would tell them that there are many right ways but there's only one wrong way to do a winterization. If the pipes freeze up, then that was the wrong way.

Hello P0300 my old friend. 2005 Chevy Express 4.8 with a random misfire. We replaced 8 plugs, all wires, #4 coil (dead); both sides upstream and downstream O2 sensors. Still a P0300 at freeway speed. The operative word is 'random'. Finally we replaced the crankshaft position sensor. Our Technician complained that the 'relearning procedure required accelerating the engine to 5,000 RPM: High 'pucker factor' on a 23 year old truck. My old friend P0300 went away. Now, a year later, my old friend is back. The only sensor that could add to the misfire condition is the camshaft position sensor. Since that requires R&R the intake manifold, and the oil pressure sensor is also located near the camshaft position sensor, we ordered one of them as well. Here is a valuable tip: On the camshaft position sensor, there is an 'O' ring at the very bottom. When that rubber 'O' ring dies, it allows motor oil to leak behind the engine into the bell housing frequently mis-diagnosed as a main seal failure. It can't be confirmed until the engine and transmission are torn apart revealing a main seal that is perfectly intact and the leak coming from a $30 sensor. (Ugh!)

I found SMA's page several years ago with his signature classic intros. He had a video which helped me get an 04 focus with an electrical issue where the ECM wasn't getting power. Wow this really helped me, the lowly chevy owner to figure out why after sitting for a week, I had a skip but drive it for a while and it clears up. The injector was failing but when heated up, it operated normally....I kept changing spark plugs about every 6 months. Changed the injector and it fixed it. Thanks

The way injectors are set up nowadays to make it real hard to bench test and injector in other words pull it out and check the spray pattern they do that for safety reasons so people don't burn up their cars because they don't have enough sense that you don't spray fuel on Sparks and on the motor not good combination I know I burned a truck up and put the fire out and rewired it and drove to work the next day or the day after I should say it's amazing what you can do when you got to get to work to pay for parts for your truck have a great day

@@nickv4073 All's fine but it didn't fix the problem, who goes to a repair shop and says "buy some new parts and see if something works", no one, if you goof it's on you, don't charge me because your "parts cannon" effort failed.

In all honesty we don't know that the bad injector was the ONLY problem. We just know it was the one they couldn't find. There could have been multiple problems, and those are the cases that are a real pain to diagnose. (Now, they probably replaced a bunch more than they needed to. But maybe they didn't do _everything_ wrong.)
@barryaiello3127
@barryaiello3127 2 жыл бұрын
@@lwilton Actually we DO know it was the only problem, if that shop had just connected a spark tester on that cylinder, (as Eric did), then you eliminate the coil as a possible suspect.

Im just glad u stuck with the video and didn't end and delete it the second u had discovered that it wasn't a compression issue and was in fact a fuel injector issue like u were talking about people betting their life on in the beginning. Takes alot of balls to upload something that manages to make u change your mind set of the situation. I do agree with the testing tho. Ive fought some of them crazy little injectors that seem as tho they work but they don't. Or even had intermittent issues. Process of elimination. If u don't know certainly then test it all. Compression test, Injector shut down test, ignition shut down test, smoke test the intake system, plugs, wires, coils, cat temps and so on. If ur not certain u haven't done enough testing. Itll show itself eventually u just gotta know how to find it. Good job Eric u went down the list just as i would have!

I always like to try and guess what's the source of the problem a few minutes into the video, and this one time I was right. It's amazing what diagnosing, trial and error can get you.
