@@MichielKlaverDifferent trucks are designed for different purposes, and you're right, these trucks wouldn't fit into any of the streets in Europe. However, these trucks carry a lot more water. I just read that some European trucks don't have water or pump! They need a pumper behind to supply water! American trucks have both water and a pump, making them much more independent, but also larger, heavier, and less compact.

Can't wait to watch this. Which type of tower is better? A mid mount or rear mount? Too bad you don't have a tiller that would be an awesome Fleet Friday vid
@AuthorX3034 жыл бұрын
In my opinon, none of the apparatus are better over the other. It depends on the area of operation and needs. Midmounts provide the best range of motion for the ladder. They require a little bit of thought when placing the apparatus on a fire scene. Meanwhile a rear mount allows for a "straight throw" in which they can park the apparatus pointed directly at the structure, and throw the ladder. My department does not own a ladder truck, however these are some of the opinons that I have heard :) Hope this helps!

Comes down to territory
@alexismspgaming82604 жыл бұрын
@@AuthorX303 exactly, it comes down to many factors. Be it streets in your first due and extended response area, be it an existing station design, or many other factors. One is not inherently better than the other. In many cases a large enough department will have all of them. Then you have straight stick aerials and even they can come in mid mount. There are so many factors that go into determining what is the best for a department and/or station.

Heimlich Manuever, how to check a pulse and where to actually place your hands for CPR, how to splint an arm or stabilize someone's neck correctly with your hands in a car accident) many people live in rural areas where sometimes a response can be too late even in the best of situations, this may be too much to ask i get you are all very busy, stay safe and keep up the great work regardless, you guys truly take care of your men and women, many more departments could learn from you all.

They must LOVE having to repack that 5 inch.... One of our trucks when I joined was a 100 ft 1988 Sutphen and it had a 2000 gpm pump on it. I was the 'can' one night for a 8 bay garage fire behind a 3 story 1910s apartment building. The engine was in tim-buck-too looking for a hydrant and we parked 20 feet from the garage. All the doors were open, no search, or vent need because all the doors were open and we could see the fire in the back of one of the bays. SOOO the captain had me pull the 1.5 hose (I don't think it had been pulled in 10 years since we had gone to 1 3/4 8 years before and once charged it still had bends were the folds had been) and extinguish the fire before the engine got on scene. Our die hard truckies HATED me for using the hose. and thank god we didn't pull the 5 inch because you had to raise the arm to repack it.

4:11 are the paratech struts unique to this tower because of it's location/geography making it a longer trip for the heavy rescue? Or is it because the other towers are mid mounts while this being a rearmount has some additional vertical space? Both?

This aerial was originally purchased by Littleton Fire Rescue and equipped as a heavy rescue aerial. That equipment remained with the apparatus after the unification with South Metro and is definitely helpful in the hard to reach places in the southwestern portions of the district.

@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you. I have seen a few other fleet Friday videos and noticed that Engine 19 for example, does not have woodland kits onboard. Assuming the video is still current, why doesn't Engine 19 (and possibly all other Engines) have woodland kits when units such as Tower 18 does? They are there so the officer can operate the siren if need be
@Spitfire85204 жыл бұрын
Many fire apparatus in the US have a mechanical Q siren that is manually controlled. As Archietoto noted, one of the pedals is typically reserved for winding up the siren. The other pedal could either be used to brake the siren to shut it off or an air horn, I am not exactly sure of Tower 18's exact configuration.

SMFR does not have separate tones for dispatch. Alerting for calls is handled digitally through computer-aided dispatch (CAD) which will send out an alert through multiple methods which includes station alerting, MDT, and duty phones. Crews can still listen to the radio for calls, but they will need to listen for their specific unit being dispatched.

So I'm almost positive that the EMS load out wasn't shown, and since tower 18 is the first out apparatus, they must be at least a BLS rig right maybe even ALS, so do they keep their EMS equipment in the rig or someplace else

I believe their EMS equipment is stored inside the crew compartment between the two firefighter seats. Littleton Fire Rescue used to run Tower 18 as an ALS rig. I think SMFR might still run it as ALS, but I am not 100% sure.
