I love these. I have had the Magic pencils for years, the big chunky triangle versions and liked them but they hurt my hands after a while. So I got these for Christmas (mine don't have names on sadly) and I really enjoy using them. They work a bit better with a less sharp point I think, so more colour variation is available by a pencil turn. The greens and browns work so well for foliage and the reds and oranges are great for flowers. I think my favourite is the mauve/blue/red combo.

Hi Jane. I own these pencils. The trick to using them is to keep rotating the pencil as you color, so you use all the 3 colors that are in each pencil. I really enjoy your channel, and look forward to the next video. By the way, I love all your beautiful colorful eye shadows that you wear. You look beautiful in any color eye shadow, lucky you!!!

Oh thank you! I really appreciate it ☺️♥️I thought maybe that was the trick to them. Some pencils had more variety than other but I’ll be keeping that in mind when I create with them!

Really interesting pencils. I remember having something like this years ago. I wonder if you would see more variation if they were swatched out in a larger area like a watercolor that granulates. Tfs.

Many of these colors are great if you have a light sketching style. You could see a great example on the official product page. If one starts coloring in heavily - doing several rounds of cross-hatching - the tri-tone effect diminishes. Especially those with darker colors. It just looks muddy. There's only a handful of landscape subjects I can imagine those excelling in, like volcanoes slowly smoldering at night. Some colors don't even seem worth getting since there's so little contrast.

The orange-brown swatch reminded me of a Tortoiseshell color, I like it. I think the inconsistency of not knowing the lay down each time, would drive me bat-crap-crazy though, lol!

I like this brand. Koh-i-noor make some excellent technical pens. Some of the best rapidographs and isographs I've ever used for the lowest prices. Talk about a fine liner.
@ArtistJane
@ArtistJane 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve thought about looking into those! Are they super precision as far as the application is concerned?
@phillipstroll7385
@phillipstroll7385 2 жыл бұрын
@@ArtistJane yes ma'am. You'll not find a better fine liner no matter how hard you try. My favorite style of art is the old etchings of the masters like durer and the old litanies. However, I'm not going to etch wood and lead for months on end. I probably couldn't match their skill if I tried. I also love books. Manuscripts, antiquities etc. So I travel the world looking for the oldest manuscripts, codexes, books of hours, etc. Bill Gates even allowed me access to da Vinci's codes he owns. I've even replicated every known to me work in the Vatican library. Then I recreate them for my own personal library. So, I use a 00.1 for most illustrative applications. Such a fine precise line. It's like cutting a sewing needle in half and writing with it. If you are going to try these might I suggest you buy a set. Buy the range from 00.1 - 2.0. You'll have lines as thin as human hair to as thick or thicker than a European broad nib. ☆☆**One word of caution**☆☆ They require maintenence. Yes, they will be the last five liner you'll ever buy and yes, you can use any color ink you can imagine; however, they do require a good rinse in water if you are going to go an extended length of time without using them. If they are going to go without use for more than a week, I suggest emptying the chamber of ink and rinsing the nib with water. If you forget to rinse them however, a soak in water with a drop of ammonia will flush the ink out. So yes, I couldn't recommend them more.

Could you do swatches where you just draw long lines with those? I think many people actually use them for line art and I haven't really seen anyone doing that type of swatch video.

I can't choose the quality of your video either - what resolution did you upload in, just out of interest? 🤔 I got a Koh-i-noor jumbo red/blue/white pencil in an art subscription box and I'm a bit 'meh' about it. I can see how your set could have really useful applications, though - especially the greens. 😊 I remember those 70's orangey brown carpets too! 😁

I upload mostly in 1080 hd, and I use to upload all the time in 4K, but it takes such a long time. I sometimes will upload In 4K (what I record in) but that’s mainly for shorter videos (15 minutes or less).

I have these and they are fun if you are going for a watercolory pigment separation in pencils. That's the funny effect they give. Not meaning they paint like watercolor duh, but separate with the different tritones to give that effect.

Since you asked... I have these pencils. I was disappointed in most of them, because although the color combinations look cool when you're staring at the pencil core, when you apply them to paper and blend, you generally end up with a single color. Particularly with the pencils that have three yellows or three blues or three greens, and some of the red-oranges, once you've blended out your coloring, you can't really tell there's more than one color in there. So why are we bothering again...? Sure, you can keep track of what color is where on your tip, and rotate it to get the colors you want. But to be honest, if I have to do that -- stop, look, turn, stop look, turn, stop look, turn... -- I'd rather just use multiple pencils of my own choosing, and have complete control over what goes where. A problem I had, which you seemed to experience at least once but didn't mention, was the breakage. :( I don't care for the stubby little factory points that come on pencils, so I started out sharpening as I went, but I quickly stopped. These pencils break like crazy during sharpening. I had one pencil break three times before I could get a good point on it, and one broke *five* times in a single sharpen. o_O All I can say is I'm glad these are cheap, but still, when you get that much breakage, you become aware of the money you're shredding into the garbage. These are novelty pencils. They're fun for what they are, but as far as being actually useful, bringing something to your artwork that regular colored pencils don't have? No, not really. Add in the breakage problem, and it's a thumbs-down from me.
@ArtistJane
@ArtistJane 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for all your input. I attributed the breakage to being heavy handed. I only experienced it once during the application. I’ll see what I can do with these before I reveal my final thoughts and review.

It’s not sad at all. I do plan to get back to art videos, but this a creative channel. Make up is a form of creative expression. It IS an art. If you’re subscribed, you’re subscribed to my channel, but you should be subscribed for the right reasons. My value is not exclusively with what I do or how I choose to do it.
