Saw them on the 35th Aniversary tour, in Birmingham, UK, 2004. What a fabulous night, the set list was fantastic, loved the acoustic section of songs, they were in great form (as you can tell by this) and I cried during Ritual. On the way out, I suddenly said in a very positive manner……”That’s the last time I’m going to see them”……the friend I was with, looked at me with a astonished face, as if to say, why on earth wouldn’t you want to see them again. Well of course I did see them again, but never again, with Jon Anderson as the singer…………
@NVprods Жыл бұрын
The giant set of drums that you mentioned around Alan White were there because they did RITUAL on this tour, and those drums play a big part in that song. You should watch that from the 35th Anniversary video. That entire concert is amazing. "And You And I" is also especially excellent from this tour.

The Perfomance of theese two Pieces are phenomenal. But, indeed: The entire 35th Anniversary 'Live at Tsongas' Duration almost 3 Hours is absolutely phantastic! I was there in 2004 in Munich/Germany! One of the things about Jon’s singing is that he does it without any help from studio tricks. The guy can SING - gentle and angelic to balls to the wall aggressive. Back in the day during live performances you could hear him just singing little bits between songs - brilliant. Technically and emotionally one of the true greats of our time - and he still has it! >> Have you reacted to any songs from Relayer? All three tunes from that 1974 release are eye/soul opening and your metal sensibilities will be put on notice. The keyboard player is different-just as skilled as Wakeman but with jazz rather than classical leanings. Keep up the good work!

During the Relayer concert I saw in Pittsburgh the drum set was the wildest drums I've ever seen. Every drum had a bell on the bottom that looked like the bell on a tuba. The bass drum it came straight out and the rest of the drums had a 90 degree turn on them with the bell also pointing straight out. I've never seen a set of drums like that any where.

Yes, Rick is a humorous person. On the Tales From Topographic Oceans tour, there were lengths of time, of the music, that Rick was not required to play. So, on a gig in the UK, prior to the show, he instructed a roadie to get him a "Curry." During the performance, when he was not required to play the keyboards, and while the others members of YES were playing, he ate the curry on stage.

Those drums are for "Ritual." May want to check it out. "Turn of the Century," from this concert seeing as though Jon A's voice heavily featured. And don't forget about Jon A and Todmobile on Awaken. The Songs from Tsongas and Symphonic Live DVDs are my particular favorites. "In the Presence Of," on the latter. "Gates of Delirium," also. Hell, just watch them all. LOL (This coming from someone who went to all the live tours from 1986 until 2017). In 2017, there was a spin off group called "Anderson Rabin Wakeman (ARW) and they have a live DVD "From the Apollo". You can watch them rocking in their 70s with Jon A sounding like Jon A even then. I met him also (during this tour in 2004) when he was walking around in the shopping area at a casino. I hugged him because I was so starstruck. He was very nice about it and talked to me for a few minutes.

I have always loved Bruford's understated drumming in the middle section of the studio version, but this live version is also great, particularly since they rarely play this song live (I never saw them do it live in the 70's). I don't know if you have reacted to Relayer or Tales yet, but those two albums will re-define your concept of music (yet again). Also, it's not technically Yes, but the live version of Awaken with Jon and Todmobile is a religious experience, with full orchestra and choir.

Exactly! (his wanting to mosh around) YES rock. They all are absolute killers on their instruments and can arrange it so it flat out shreds. Some people think of YES as boring noodling and Mozart. Until they hear them. I consider them a psychedelic rock band who took the road of practicing and grew their sound as they went further down that road. They are definitely Prog, Art Rock, and the rest, but they are a rock band. In your free time I hope you listen to YES on real speakers. Get those big bass sound waves hitting your whole body.
