Just stumbled upon this video-nice coverage for a Topeka native and frequent visitor to the West Bottoms

I enjoyed my ride on the Southwest Chief. I have never ridden on a train looking backwards, very interesting.

Thank you for this. It popped up on my KZbin suggestions. I appreciated seeing how the Chief and other trains come into KC and come east. I live in Liberty and appreciated following the Chief from the area around 435 through Sugar Creek and then under 291. Just wish I could run it in reverse and watch it going from east to west.

NICE VID!!! AS A RETIRED AT&SF EMPLOYEE I HAVE SEEN THIS SCENE FROM AN ENGINE CAB! I ALSO DID 30 YEARS AT THE ARGENTINE DIESEL SHOP!! ONE OF MY JOBS BEING ASSIGNED TO THE YARD FUEL TRACKS!! FYI THE ROUTE THROUGH THE YARDS IS THE NORTH MAIN, WITH THAT FUEL RACK CALLED THE WEST HUMP FUEL!! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!! 👍👍

At 37:09, the train goes over the Sheffield interchange. This is where UP (N/S), BNS (E/W), & KC Southern all interlock at one bridge! That bridge was guarded by the U.S. Army after 9/11. I learned this from a guard, who worked there then.

Who knew Sugar Creek had a depot 45:52 and Cement City Rd would be great for train watching! Thanks for posting.

Great video. I'm amazed at the number of flyovers that were built to alleviate traffic crossing the diamonds.

Note link I left in my comment above. Lots of tracks in this area where I live at 8:12

Wow! Makes you want to drive to Topeka, just so you could take the train back! THX for putting this up!

great video lots of action but ALOT of interlockings an switching amtrack had to weave through lol but it really puts it in perspective just how complex it is for dispatchers to make sure everyone is on the right track .....thank you for posting this video

Lovely footage! I do wish you'd been able to film the train going of the Missouri River Bridge at Sibley. Regards, Dana.

This was great..You did realize you went trough Sante fe Jct. Just before Station..

Topeka actually wasn't originally served by the train. Amtrak only rerouted it after the Inter-American was cancelled (or was it the Lone Star?). I just love the hum of a massive Diesel engine, anyone with me?

Thanks for the view of the Argentine Yards in Kansas City, KANSAS (you said you were near Kansas City - yes you were - on the Kansas city of the same name.- LOL). The footage of the Santa Fe Junction was great, also.

The red-brick bldg at 35:49 is next to a KCMO public library with a bay window for train-watching! Very thoughtful! The cemetery to the right is a Jewish cemetery.

16:20 where the tracks seperate to go over the flyover.

Did you notice the hundreds of locomotives, in that large yard? That's normal for large railroads. They have many locomotives on storage, all over. Business could be slow, also.
@rossbryan6102 Жыл бұрын
EAST SIDE OF TOPEKA SHOPS IS THE STORAGE AREA, SOME LOCOMOTIVES AWAITING COMPLETE REBUILD, OR WRECK REPAIR, AND OTHERS AWAITING SCRAPPING OR SALES! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!! 👍👍

And then we didn’t even see Kansas City which is where the video was to supposedly end. Would have been nice to actually see Kansas City.

Great video but from what I seen Kansas City is a bottleneck on a through passenger train going through Chicago St Louis and you're you're out and I'm running this seems like a lot of congestion but a wonderful video thank you for making that God bless

At 8:12 you are going right by my apartment building along the 14 tracks there in the Argentine district of Kansas city Kansas. Thru the old Santa Fe fueling yard now BNSF. The old silver mine towers at 12:34 can be seen to right above buildings by tracks which are right across from where I live. Note link included. www.google.com/maps/@39.0773308,-94.6649896,754a,35y,90h/data=!3m1!1e3 . I see Big Chief go thru daily at this time and then again at late evening hours headed west bound. Nice video.

The view is from the back of the train. Would have been better in the lounge car with the big windows on either side instead of in the back of the train.

Do they make you eat with strangers like on the California Zephyr? On that train they would seat you at tables with other people. You couldn’t pick your own seat.
@williamfree95655 жыл бұрын
I rode it in 2017 you eat with who they seat you with unless your group can fill table
