I'm so excited! I'm off to Rishikesh to do my Yoga teacher training next year in the autumn for five weeks, it's the trip of my lifetime and I'm so very excited! I'm taking a fold up bag for the hold of the aeroplane on the way back so I can buy loads of clothes as I love Indian attire! I love your videos and have learned so much from them so thank you so much Christine. Did I mention I can't wait to go! Only 14 months.....sigh! ✨🙏🏻✨💕

Hi! I don't know if you're on a tight budget, but I suggest the next time you're here, try a few fancy and expensive Indian souvenirs. Say, jewellery or better quality clothes (as authentic or even more). Street shopping has an amazing feel to it, no denying that, but shopping in India isn't just that at all :D I'm sure you're aware of that, I just felt like giving an honest Indian advice! (LOL) You should definitely stop a well dressed young Indian girl and ask her where she shops... Can't get more real than that, can it? :D
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler 8 жыл бұрын
I was tempted to ask an Indian girl where she got her kurta because I saw some nice ones but not in the department store or the streets I was going. But I'm generally on a tight budget and long term traveling, so even moreso, I don't want to carry too much. or spend. This was also my 3rd trip to India.=) But your advice is great for the general tourist! Lots of beautiful jewelry and artwork in India. Shipping souvenirs home from India can be inexpensive too.( I once bought too many yoga books!)

+JP Goes Global Thanks! I'm pretty proud of the KZbin ideas I come up with! Ideas take work but I don't want to be like other travel vloggers. I like sharing video ideas like these. Travel is such a broad territory to work with! I'm sure there's many different stories you can capture at markets.

love following your youtube channel you are such an inspiration and the tips are very helpful for India, as me and my husband are going to travel to India hopefully next year. That will be a trip for maybe 1 year to Asia this is the second time we are planning to go travelling for longer. I will also blog my travel story but I am still in the making of my website. Cheers Moira

+GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa yes I am very lucky to have a husband who loves travelling. We are now making plans to travel more over the ground instead of taking flights. Our previous travel stories where in Dutch but my next website will be in English. We are currently living in New Zealand and we travelled for almost 3 years last time. So we are currently saving money for our new adventures.

I picked up a beautiful hand carved wooden jewelry box from Syria in a Souk in Dubai's Deira district for 5$. The Souk was on one that specialized in gold dealings, so all of the other items like hand made scarves, shoes, and wood items were so affordable! A total steal!

+Sarah Semsar Wow, I always imagined Dubai as just e x p e n s i v e. lol. Bargains are always such a nice feeling-- it's like somehow you've cheat your country's system, while helping a smaller vendor's economy. =)

Exactly! Dubai is more affordable if you stay in the out lying districts, like Old Dubai. They also have numerous free beaches and museums. There are still great ways to stay on the cheap. As usual, eating from smaller family owned food vendors or food trucks, and they have hostels too. I do not think it is the best place to visit in the Middle East as it does lack the history that I love so much and it is very Western. However, it is one of the safer places to visit in the Middle East. Worth a look, and it just takes a bit more planning to make it happen on the cheap

+Eric McCormick There's just great craftsmen in India! People who have doing the same thing all their life. One year I went to a wood shop in Paharganj where a guy had carved thousands of wooden stamps by hand and was exporting them wholesale. He was his own mass manufacturer. I walked away with a lot of wooden block mantra stamps.

+Eric McCormick But yeah, I enjoy supporting local vendors in general. But in India it has special meaning for me. They put hard work into their lifestyle and crafts and a rupee goes a long way for them
@ericmccormick7501
@ericmccormick7501 8 жыл бұрын
+GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa That's truly amazing. I bet with getting the wooden mantra stamps as souvenirs, there is a real connection for you with India and knowing that that particular vendor had spent the time making them by hand and you can kind of hold on to his art. I can also see that every rupee helps them maintain their artwork and way of life. I really, really enjoy seeing your journeys through these videos and also your past experiences. Just awesome!

+Eric McCormick thanks for encouraging words for those vendors. They fight each day by themselves to earn some money for living. I feel so low about how the world has been so transparent and classified. I hope India would have amazed you in positive manner. Regards and Hugs. :)

I can see how it can be very tough for them, but they do create amazing work. I can agree, I think poorer people are seen as less by many people in a lot of places, it is sad. And yeah most definitely, from what I have seen and learned about India I would love to visit one day! Thank you, best regards to you as well(:

i know right. The locals love those mint inhalers. my cousins love those things. they mostly use it in public transportation like bus,taxi,and bts/mrt. they just don't like how other people smell i guess.

I always say to the shopkeeper name your best price. If I like it I’ll buy. If not I move on. I’m always friendly to shopkeepers. I don’t haggle. I seldom convert in to ¥or dollars. Talking ramdinmly at first helps to see if I like the shopkeeper

I don't think you have to carry all your purchases with you. India has a good postal system so you can ship as much as you like back home. There are even packing helpers outside the post office. For example Kolkata has a wonderful central post office.
