Think I messed up somewhere? Pressed a button I didn’t need to? Make sure to read this very brief FAQ to see if I address your concern. . . Q: In 1-1, why not hold toggle into the last room and use Grievous’ Bodyguard’s high jump to get over the wall? A: This is a viable strategy, but it relies on getting that character in the level, which is uncommon. For all levels, I only wanted to rely on character RNG when there was absolutely no alternative. Here, there was. . . Q: Is Invincibility really required? A: The more I think about it, the less sure I am. The reason I thought it was fully needed was for 3-6 and 5-5, but I’m not so sure now after finishing the video. Honestly, without it, this run would be extremely annoying to play, so even if it’s not totally absolutely necessary, I’d turn it on anyway. But that’s not what this video is about. The biggest problem would be taking out your AI partner before he takes out you - that seems like a tall order. Maybe turning it on isn’t button optimal after all? I’d have to play through the run again with it turned off to be certain, but I don’t really feel like doing that. I’m Lego’d out for now. . . Q: Why not use Grievous’ Bodyguard’s high jump near the end of 1-2? A: To get to that last jump section, a force use is needed. I tried to jump around the force block using the toggle high jump method, but the problem is it only works when Bodyguard swaps to R2 and stops toggling. R2 of course is not known for his high jumping abilities, so swapping to the super to force the block is the only way forward. . . Q: Why not use your blaster super and rely on the game giving Grievous’ Bodyguard for 3-3? A: That would in theory save one button press potentially (it’s complicated). But Bodyguard is never given for the level anyway, so it doesn’t matter. You have to bring him yourself. . . Q: You say it’s important that you got droideka + Yoda at the end of 3-5. But isn’t only the player two character the one that matters, as you can freely choose for player one? A: That is correct. I was playing up the value of ending with “Yodeka” for comedic effect. What really matters there is getting player two as Yoda. Player one as droideka, not so much. On a similar note, the reason 3-5 is played before 3-4 is because, for a long time, I thought 3-4 could not be ended with Yoda as player two (due to an alternate route I was using). Then I figured out a better strategy, and player two Yoda could be maintained. I didn’t notice that 3-5 and 3-4 could be swapped to make them be in order until well into editing the video. Since it has no bearing on the final result, I chose not to fix this minor error. . . Q: For 1-5, why not use deflected bolts to free all the guards, not just one? A: The only guard I was ever able to free was the one shown in this video. Even that took me over 12 tries (all available droids killed themselves). I did not try to free the other guards that many times, though. Considering the further right guard requires precise aiming even when not using a deflection, I don’t see that one being possible at all. There is a small chance the back left one could be freed, but considering the other guard would also have to be freed in the same run, I think the odds are too small to incorporate freeing both into this challenge. In any case, this is likely the most controversial decision I made in this run. I can see strong arguments for both sides. . . Q: For 3-2 and 4-3, are you sure a thermal detonator is needed to start the Dooku fight and to destroy the door? A: Not completely. I have never seen or personally experienced the enemies automatically aggro the player, so I can only assume they never do. Perhaps there is a small chance, though. Gameplay proof of this happening would be cool to see. . . Q: Why not turn on the extra “super thermal detonator” for 5-2? A: That extra would not save a button press (it costs one but saves one), so it is not worth turning on. It would also only make the run marginally more convenient from a gameplay perspective. But I find the extra camera shake to be annoying, so I left it off. However, this brings up a good point. Turning on the extra would have reduced the gameplay button count by one, while increasing the menu count by one. Along the same lines, playing some levels in co-op or turning on and off certain extras at key moments would increase the menu count more so than it decreases the gameplay count, but it still would decrease the gameplay count. Therefore, the ultimate value by which the run should be judged as optimal is not the gameplay count. The only thing that truly matters is the overall count. . . Q: Is there really no other way to take out Vader at the end of 5-5? A: Not that I’m aware of. I tried pushing him off the ledge (both sides) and coercing Ewok to shoot him in various ways. Nothing worked. . . Q: Why not use the Yodeka skip toward the end of 6-1 to warp to the rancor fight? A: Assuming IG-88/4-LOM is given, this method should cut down the level button count by one. However, this assumes Yoda is player two at the start for free. The only way I see that happening is random chance which I have never experienced in a playthrough. So, the Yodeka skip is not worth it. And the same applies for the Yodeka skip at the start of 4-4. It would save one if Yoda could be player two for free. . . Q: Why bring Yoda into 4-2 as player two, costing a button press, when you could get him in the given character roster with the right RNG? A: I was never given a Jedi in the character roster for 4-2, let alone Yoda. I always get a Sith, 99% of the time Maul. So, I believe Yoda must be player two in order to have him for the level. . . Q: I noticed sometimes when you say hold toggle there is a time when no toggling is happening. Are those mistakes? A: During certain actions, there is a delay to start toggling even though the toggle button is still held. These include dying, entering a new area, and even the first toggle once the button is pressed. All these have a delay associated with them. However, sometimes in the gameplay, there is a small stutter in the cycle even though none of these things have happened. This is because at that point I needed a certain character, but I let go of toggle at the wrong time. So, these could be considered slip-ups. . . Q: What did you do when there were multiple routes to complete a task that ended up using different but the same number of buttons? A: I stuck with the more “normal” method. Like with 4-2, swapping to Jango Fett to shoot open the sandcrawler (and swapping back) would take four buttons, the same as if four forces were used. Or in 5-5, swapping to Vader during the first boss fight and jumping across to the Imperial panel would be the same as the R2 fly method. But for this example neither are very “normal.” So, the easier one was used. . . Q: Why not just unplug your console after every level to avoid pressing a button to go back into the cantina? Similarly, why not unplug your second controller to avoid the two buttons to drop out? A: If I unplugged the console, I would then have to go through the start menu again. As the rules state all buttons pressed after gaining control of the character will count, going through the start menu a second/third/etc. time would all count. With unplugging the second controller to avoid dropping out, this always results in the game pausing until the second controller is plugged in again. So, dropping out is needed. . . Q: For some levels, like 5-4, why does your character roster change during the level? A: This is because some levels are spliced. Usually I did this when there was a difficult trick, and I went back later to get a cleaner run for the video. . . Q: Would the run outlined in this video be possible to perform all in one go? A: Theoretically, yes. But getting the perfect run would be almost impossible. This isn’t due to character or aggro RNG, as the odds of getting that RNG is about 1 in 20,000. It’s because executing all tricks perfectly the first time is basically inhuman. So, this video is just about a theoretical perfect run, not a run I or anyone else has performed. However, every trick has been performed at least once to verify it is possible. . . Q: Why do you call thermal detonators “bounty hunter bombs?” A: The game’s thermal detonators look so different from the movie version that I think my name is more accurate. And it’s more fun to say. . . Q: How accurate are the story and free play mode button counts? A: They are decent estimates. I would say there is often a 5% to 15% margin of error depending on the length of the level. A big reason some levels have such high button presses is due to unskippable enemies. My methods for determining what constitutes standard play were not scientific, so don’t treat these numbers as gospel. . . Q: How close to optimal do you think this run is? A: There’s no way to know until more people see it. Menu buttons are pretty much locked in. But for gameplay buttons, on Aug 12, I thought 565 was optimal. On Aug 19, it was at 509. On Aug 29, it was 494, and I was sure I was done. The next day, it was 490. Again, I was certain. Next day, it was 483. Then 480 the next. I told myself I would absolutely stop at that point. But then I discovered a few more optimizations on accident. I have no idea if this downward trend would continue.

Just watched this video with some fellow speedrunners and really enjoyed it! I could tell many many hours were researched to find and optimize as many button presses as possible and was quite surprised at some of the out of the box ideas used to remove certain presses. We could tell you actually cared about truly removing as many as possible. As we were watching, there was definitely quite a few more presses we knew could be removed but overall the video did a really good job showcasing many of the speedrun glitches found over the years. I bet many people in the speedrunning discord will really enjoy picking up where you left off and removing more and more button presses (we already have Free Play studs down to 15!). Great video!

Is there a public overview of the 15 stud Free Play route?
@SovernGaming3 жыл бұрын
@@bb010g Doubt it. There’s a LSWTCS Discord (link on the speedrun.com website) where they likely figured out which studs can be avoided. I don’t think there’s a video, but I could be wrong.
@WiiSuper3 жыл бұрын
@@bb010g There is not like one singular video of the new stud skips, but I will explain them in relation to timestamps on Sovern's free play stud video. In the original video, there was 31 studs remaining. In this video he shows that you can skip 3 more thanks to the Falcon Skip on 4-5, and 4 (he says 2 in the video, but its actually 4) more on 3-2 with the Upwarp into the Dooku fight, bringing it down to 24. Now for the skippable studs in his stud video: At 5:50, is is possible to skip these 3 studs by doing ~9 wall climbs to get all the way over the wall and into the door (21) At 6:19, it is possible to skip using this panel by doing something called a JGC (Jedi Grievous Clip), which is done by switching from a Jedi to Grievous while running into a wall immediately after alt-tabbing out and back into the game (it is possible with other character combinations as well, but most consistent with this lineup). If done correctly, the lag generated by the alt-tab will allow you to just sink through the wall (I believe this is also possible by using the lag generated by pressing the home button on xbox). (20) At 7:43, it is possible to get past this door without using the panel (with a believe is a wall climb), skipping 1 stud (19) At 11:41, you can skip needing to pull this bomb by doing a VERY precise yoda clip in the doorframe of the previous room and walking out of bounds past vader, skipping 1 stud (18) At 13:22, you can skip grabbing the stud on the imperial panel by doing a weird yoda clip into the side of the door allowing you to just barely hit the transition to the next room (17) At 18:50, you can skip this room by immediately turning around and doing a triple jump over the transition to the next room and just walking under the floor the entire way, skipping the stud up top (16) At 19:37, it is actually possible to fly across the entire gap without pulling any levers by hitting a piece of glitchy collision on the other side with boba, skipping one stud (15) Bonus: At 20:37, it is possible to skip pulling this lever by doing a Death Warp, skipping 2 studs. Since death warps are an xbox exclusive trick and the majority of glitch hunting for score challenges are done by community members on PC, these are considered unofficial skips. This means on Xbox you must collect 13 studs, but 15 on PC. The remaining 15 studs can be viewed on this document, with the yellow ones being what we believe is theoretically the most likely to be skipped docs.google.com/document/d/1e3m79C7-USleYVf5N-ZvJL257wtC1CBXzDJBhr6_gNg/edit?usp=sharing . The ones in red we believe unfortunately may never be skippable but obviously anything is possible. And I guess while I'm here, if anyone else is curious about any other challenge stats: The minimum amount of studs you need to collect in story is currently 155 (111 using 1p2c and lag): docs.google.com/document/d/1no_PTLlR_4Q1ggaF9zQ3ywmUVk3ue8YkBSbOsUda8mk/edit The maximum amount of minikits you can collect while only playing in story mode is currently 331 (out of 360): docs.google.com/document/d/1NFx0Mhppuhmd26N5JCiqd0C_gjPDKvVij24DmgmzMxY/edit?usp=sharing And the minimum amount of jumps needed to beat the game (from a new game) is currently 42: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tNyV6RyU7PcmkMrYfEM_19Gu8mg7hVC_rPsxl1e7WLk/edit?usp=sharing

One skip I know is theoretically possible is when escaping the sand crawler, you can just destroy the Lego pieces instead of using the force, which would mean you can cut off 2 button presses by destroying 2 at a time. Again very theoretical, but it's certainly possible for an under 600 button run. Great content and excited for what else is in store c:
@SovernGaming3 жыл бұрын
I tried this a bunch, and I’m pretty sure you can’t destroy them two at a time. It always takes one shot or one force each. Thermal detectors don’t work either. Using Jango, you can destroy two in a single button press, but due to having to swap to him, it’s not worth it. But maybe I’m wrong and there’s some very specific way to do hit both with a single lightsaber swing or bomb.

"no turbo controllers for obvious reasons" me, recommended this video out of nowhere, no idea what lego star wars is about except presumably star wars with legos: oh yeah obviously
@bleppss27693 жыл бұрын
turbo controllers let you hold a button down to use it a bunch of times so it would just turn into him holding the turbo button the entire rum kinda defeating the point of it
@Ultimaximus3 жыл бұрын
Turbo controllers aren't specifically related to lego star wars, so the "obvious" reason didn't require knowledge about the game

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised to see there are low button press challenges for Lego Star Wars of all things. I wish people made more content with these games, they're some of my childhood favorites.

When you think about it, you have to be kind of smart to figure this type of stuff, with ordering the levels for specific characters and button tricks

38:20 it's funny how that song has just become synonymous with speedrunning... it's such a slow and relaxed song, not quite what you'd think of for speedrunning
@RasEli033 жыл бұрын
What's the song called?
@bencorrell3 жыл бұрын
@@RasEli03 "We're Finally Landing" by Home
@theapexsurvivor95382 жыл бұрын
A lot of speedrun songs are pretty relaxed, we've got "We're Finally Landing" for general speedrunning, "En Aften Ved Svanefossen" for clutching a run/TrackMania speedrunning, and a bunch of others that I can't remember the names of atm. Then the slow grinds are always stuff like "Howling" by Lupus Nocte.

On the wii version you can attack with lightsabers by swinging the controller, meaning no buttons would be pressed with these attacks

What is the highest amount of glitches you can perform while doing a freeplay run of the game, going through every mission only once? Doing the same glitch over and over again still counting as one.

Question: could you manipulate the RNG of character selection by not purchasing every character? Would that be legal in your setup?
@CasuallyShadow3 жыл бұрын
I was wondering exactly that-
@bingusdingus52982 жыл бұрын
I know I’m late, but no. In order to have the “super” custom characters, you need to 100% the game, which includes unlocking all characters.

using the Wii could make up some presses, because u can use motion controls to fight with lightsaber, use force and build stuf. (there may be other uses, too; using the motions is slightly faster than normal build/force)
@theapexsurvivor95382 жыл бұрын
The force and build just speed up the Z press, but grapples can be done by flicking the wii remote up, so the lightsaber and grapples are free. You can also block with the wii remote, which could make it easier to control blaster bolt deflections.

i think you can beat the game with only 4 buttons, optimally. alright so this'll be long but here's all of the buttons needed to beat the game: 'A', 'B', 'X', and 'Y'.
