I good hint is that the more broken a game is the more likely it is to have a ridiculous time. Take portal 1 vs 2 runs. Portal 1 is around 15min because you can enter a very weird state where the players actual position and camera are desynced and it lets you to shoot through walls and other stuff. Portal 2 patched this bug before it was discovered and the result is that portal 2 takes around 2hrs to complete a speedrun. I just assume any super glitchy game will let you get down to single digit minutes eventually.

Wow. Not only is it so exciting to see my name just for a brief moment in one of these videos after watching the channel for so long, but to see my favourite speed game chosen for a video made me so excited when I saw it come up this morning. Although I wasn’t around much in the community after my times, I have still been actively keeping up with the leaderboards up to the recent 2:24s and I’d really like to just note how absurd these times seem to me. I remember when I was most actively running and I spent my summer holidays from school playing over 6-9 hours most days consistently grinding out ILs for hours on end or I was strat finding looking for the smallest of movement optimisations just to make sub 3 more viable. A large time was also spent streaming for hours going for new records. Through this i had been under the impression sub 3 was barely viable, but unfortunately I believed that the game would hit a huge holt as it seemed very hard to even achieve this at the time. HOWEVER after the HUGE improvements, time and effort put in by the new gen runners, I was no less than shocked with just what can be done when you have a highly motivated team of runners. So i thank them massively, for not only making so many huge milestones become reality, but for being an amazing community. I remember when I had just started speedrunning and the record was in the high 3:30s and I had caught a few of tsgs records live and from there I knew the game had so much potential and it wouldn’t have been done without everyone’s hard work to achieve these records the years. It has been an amazing journey and it’s far from over yet. I can’t wait to see who gets the sub 2:20. Hey, I might even come back and try :) I would like to thank salt too for giving the speedruns of this game one of the, or even the biggest pushes it’s ever had in publicity and through this I hope it not only increases the size of the community massively but also the competition. I believe 2023 is going to be a massive year for TCS. ❤️

I never thought about that. I think about that too sometimes; I'll feel amazing after finishing one of his videos, but sometimes looking back, I wonder, "What makes it so enjoyable? How does he make what would simply be a story of the exchange of records and discovery of strategies so enjoyable?" I've watched Summoning Salt for a long time, and the part at the end with him describing Zac's thought process of his run and the emotions running through his mind was honestly one of the most impactful moments of this channel I have seen. And I think you got the right idea, thanks for pointing out the answer to this question. His videos function like a story/movie with real life people, but you never really realize it.

The Lego Community has some of the best and most dedicated community members in all the Speedrunning communities I've had the pleasure of being a part of, and coming back and watching the development of all the skips and growth of runners fills me with pride knowing that I was there. My favorite part of Summoning Salt videos are the segments where we get to learn about all the new trick discoveries, including who discovered/created them, and I'm glad all of the glitch hunters and tech developers get their proper just due in these videos, so allow me to personally thank Summoning Salt for continuing to include them with every World Record History Video. I haven't ran this game personally since that '2:57' you saw for a brief bit during the race for '2:50' portion of the video. I don't think I was ever as good at the game as the absolute units of talent and dedication (1P2C is not something I grasped very well) that are the other runners, but I enjoyed playing with you guys for the time that I did.

I would love if you could chart each runners PBs as their own line. When people are trading the record you can see each time the gap is closed and you’d see two different lines racing downwards. Occasionally showing the heartbreak of a good run going sour also builds tension and suspense every time. YOU'RE PLAYING WITH MY EMOTIONS, SALT!

I really love how you tell a story of several characters, not only those currently in the lead but those inching forward with their own attempts.

That's how some of the best stories are told. It's nice to be reminded that even in an exciting tale, there are plenty of others having their own memorable journeys

including the actual interview with the speedrunner was such a great idea! i hope to see it more in the future. hearing the actual words someone said about their time speedrunning just completely changes the tone of everything.

That chart at the end is all over the place, it's probably the only speedrun where anybody can jump on and find something new and take the endless top spot.

I realized something while watching this that most people probably knew the first time they watched a video of yours. You actually watch every single one of the runs you talk about when you research for these videos. In this case, dozens of three hour runs. Man, that’s some dedication.

Agreed, there is no way that he can find out about it. I suspect that Mr salt pulls up multiple wrs and watches them at once so he can see where time is gained and lost compared to their predecessors
