I just finished building my SV08, as someone with dyslexia, I truly, truly appreciate videos like this. Reading the instructions that they provided was a little difficult. I'm coming from an Ender 3v2, so I know I'll be on a learning curve. I do a lot of printing with PETG, so that video of yours is on my list as well. But, I just wanted to say thank you.

Do you have a video about replacing the mainboard fan on SV08?
@gerGoPrint3D8 ай бұрын
Hi Igor!!!! No video about that yet. My current solution is quite brute force. I cut a large 120×120 mm hole, then realized my 120mm fan doesn’t work so well. So, I printed the insert you see at 16:16 and raised the feet to accommodate the taller fan. Running this 80mm 12V fan over a step-down converter provides sufficient cooling (
@MyTechFun8 ай бұрын
@@gerGoPrint3D Yes, something has to be done with that fan. I am thinking to connect two 12V Noctua fans in series, then I don't need a voltage converter.
@Liberty4EverАй бұрын
I installed the Noctua NF-A4x10 24V fan when I was assembling my SV08. It's a direct replacement - a 5 minute job. It's so quiet that I didn't change the printer.cfg to PID control the fan so it only runs when needed to cool the MCU, and only as fast as needed. The Noctua fan is very reliable so running constantly shouldn't be a problem.

Great video. I‘m building a Voron 0.2 at the moment and although it might be sacrilegious, I ordered the SV08 as it seems to be a great offer. The better Voron 2.4 kits are easily triple the cost, unassembled. With better components, of course, but upgrades can always be made.

We have new nozzles, no assembly issues, no sticky timing belts like I did in my first prints video. Slicer support got more complete with usable filament presets, and of course the community has produced a lot of useful mods, tips and tricks. Hey GerGo - Interesting that the new settings for the SV08 set the first layer for PLA at 235C. I've never taken PLA to that extreme in any event and am curious is this is just the SV08, or should we look into trying the higher settings on our SV07+/SV06+ units. What are your thoughts?
@gerGoPrint3D8 ай бұрын
That's a Sovol / Comgrow thing I guess. The T300 benchy had 250°C for the first layer. Beta-testers we all just looked at each other. But Sovol said it is their recommendation for good bed adhesion... You are free to change of course. I eventually changed my T300 to 210°C like all other printers, and I will do the same here.

Hello gerGo, I have enjoyed your videos maybe you can help me as I am so dilemma. Previously i have an ended 5 and the horrible anet a8 and due to so frustration with bed levelling and headaches I gave up. Now I want to retry the 3d printing again, but I am stuck I cannot decide about the K1 max, Bambu Ps1 or the SV08. I did almost buy a ldo voron kit before, because I liked the linear rail.. I am swayed towards the SV08 I want to like it and don’t mind some tinkering but then again I see lot of print farm using bambu lab, do you have any opinion recommendations I don’t want to get fed up again!! lol
@gerGoPrint3D4 ай бұрын
I don't have hands-on experience with the other two machines, only the SV08. As you can probably tell, I’m really enjoying my SV08 and have had only positive experiences with it so far. That said, from what I’ve seen and read, the Bambu printers are likely the best for beginners, as they offer almost effortless printing. However, the other two machines you listed both have much larger build volumes. A 256mm³ build volume is quite limiting, in my opinion. You won't be able to print tall or wide functional objects, and helmets, busts, etc., are also out of the question. It also restricts how many smaller objects you can print at the same time when mass-producing (e.g., our pin project). Additionally, the closed ecosystem of Bambu can become limiting after a while-it's a bit like the iPhone vs. Android conundrum. The Bambu offers good settings and features out of the box, but it can be restrictive if you want or need to do anything beyond the basics. If you’re happy with an iPhone-like experience, then the Bambu is a good choice. However, if you want more flexibility and customization from your device, I’d recommend the Sovol. If you’re open to getting more machines in the future (I now have 5-6), you might consider starting with the P1S. Then, as you become more confident in your 3D printing skills, you could upgrade to the SV08 for its larger size and greater customizability. If you keep the P1S, the SV08 doesn't need to be enclosed (then it's half the price of the P1S with shipping), you can print sensitive (and multi-color!!) stuff on your Bambu, and big, tricky things on the SV08. From my research, the K1 Max seems to have more issues than the SV08, but again, I have no personal exposure to it.

Hello gerGO, I just received my SV08 and I'm struggling to get the Z offset to stay put. Using the automatic z offset calibration, the nozzle float about 3 mm above the bed plate and same with the cleaning brush at the back of the unit. I adjust it during the first layer test to where I'm happy with it and it never saves. Do you have any idea how to fix this? I bought your cfg file from cults and I'm still having multiple issues.
@gerGoPrint3D3 ай бұрын
Congrats to the new printer!!! After adjusting Z use the command "End-Save Z-offs" (in the same in-print menu). This will make sure the SAVE_CONFIG command is executed at the end of the print to save your changes. Otherwise they apply only to the current session. Alternatively you can go to the Mainsail interface and press the SAVE_CONFIG button (litte disk icon on the top) at the end of the print - we just tend to forget to do that, hence my workaround. Do not press it during print, because saving config interrupts the print. Make sure to heat soak the bed for 5-10 minutes before printing (using my macro, which makes sure to also aclimate the probe), z-offset has been steady for me and first layers are effortless.
@PlaydohYoutube3 ай бұрын
I will give this a shot when I get home today. Maybe I was rushing and trying to save during the print. Thank you. I'm really hoping it works, I enjoy this printer but the z offset is killing me.

@gerGoPrint3D8 ай бұрын
You might need to take it apart then and wash that short belt thoroughly. It does get better on its own over time too. Worse case ask them to send you a new set of short belts. You seem to be the third with this issue, the other person who left comment here had more success cleaning off the loctite. I hope Sovol updated their system and this issue only affects this first batch of mass-produced units.

@gerGoPrint3D8 ай бұрын
The SV08 is amazing value for the money. Yes, Klipper has a steep learning curve and it can still throw some curve balls to even experienced users. But overall, the SV08 and Sovol printers in general are about freedom. With Bambu you are getting a fully locked down system. Which could be good out of the gate, but no way to improve, with the SV08 only the sky is the limit! There is nothing you cannot change or even download, slightly modify and reprint components. The whole thing is fully open source!!! And of course the build volume is more than 2.5× bigger to start with. I've just printed a 4cm x 42cm cover strip with the SV08 today (fitted diagonally). That's a two-piece print on most other printers.

Thanks for covering the printer. Certainly helps to cover the time until my unit arrives. Do you know whether the stock nozzle can be used to print abrasive materials? The package came with a replacement nozzle, right? Is the replacement identical to the installed one?
@gerGoPrint3D8 ай бұрын
It is a nickel-plated copper 0.4mm nozzle, as is the replacement. While the nickel plating makes them more wear resistant, I don’t think they are not as strong as hardened steel is. But the nickel plating makes their surface non-stick. There are different sizes available on the website, but I haven’t seen any hardened steel ones yet. I can ask the Sovol team if this nozzle is intended for abrasive materials or if they are planning to provide more dedicated hardened versions.
@twinklingwater8 ай бұрын
@@gerGoPrint3D That would be cool, thanks! I do have a volcano-style nozzle with ruby tip, but that will be useless unless I change the entire hotend (which is probably not the best of ideas - at least early on). Somewhere I picked up that the hotend on the SV08 is connected to klipper via USB. The klipper config for "extra_mcu" indicates the USB-Serial connection. Quite an interesting concept and certainly a nice way for extensions.

You should be eligible for a replacement. The z offset calibration is slightly off on some SV08, problem mainly with the inductive probe). I would suggest try to get a replacement for the extruder too (or at least the probe and ruined nozzle). On the long run I recommend heat soaking before using the the probe or upgrade the probe to a better one like 3DPrintDemon did on printables)
